Buying stuff for wedding

Mackenzie, on May 7, 2019 at 9:28 PM Posted in Style and Décor 1 33
Ok, question ladies!! My wedding is about 2 years away, so do you think it’s okay to start buying little things here and there? Like decorations and signs? I already know the theme I want and colors, is it okay to buy little things here and there? I definitely don’t want to spend a lot of money upfront which is why I think it’s a good idea to buy little amounts of things here and there. What do you think?

I have been buying stuff for my wedding and it October of 2020. I think its smart we have already put the deposit down on our venue. We want time to pays things off and not have a huge amount of money come out at once. So I say if you see something buy it.

It's actually a smart idea, especially if you find good prices on things as you go along, like say Black friday sales!

Definitely a good idea if they’re things you are 100% sure you want! I would definitely think about them carefully though bc I made some decisions to get stuff early on that I probably would do much differently now that I’m closer. But if it’s just little stuff you’ll be fine

Yes! Go for it. As long as you have the room to store it, I say why not?
Getting married next June and I'm definitely buying things and starting on some DIY projects.

Do you have a venue? If not I would hold off. You might buy stuff you don’t need depending on what venue you choose.

I agree with if you have a venue go for it. I have found a lot of great things during holidays such as for valentines I found wooden hearts and Christmas we bought some lights and found some great boxes for the proposal boxes for thanksgiving we bought stuff from Black Friday sales ect I believe it has helped with saving especially since I buy most of them after the holiday passes meaning they they discounted and for someone who has the chance to do that 2 years in a row! I think it’s a good idea but also be careful I have found something I think would fit perfectly for something in the wedding then find something else I love even more.

I agree with the previous posters! I’m a planner for sure as well, but a very excitable one so I think I bought some things that I’m retrospect I didn’t need. But hey, I really don’t regret it!

it helps to start getting things early!

That is a great idea. There are sooo many little things you find in the end you never though of, you could definitely get a head start now.

My wedding is in October 2020, and as much as I want to buy stuff I can't pull the trigger...I don't want to end up with a bunch of stuff I may not need. I'm going to wait until I have a concrete number based on RSVP's before I purchase most of my stuff. And I don't know how long I can hold on to peacock feathers before they start to look bad before we use them...lol I don't want to have to buy twice.

I'm in the same boat and have been collecting items when I see them on last sale or off season sale. I have already saved hundreds of dollars and barely made a dent in the budget. I have a moving box rubbermaid full of many things for the wedding. If you have the room go for it.

With the feathers storage, my best suggestion is put them in an airtight ziploc type bag, in a cool dry place like a closet. My father has had turkey feathers on a wall for years and they look the exact same - I assume peacocks are similar.

Yes! I watched this show on Netflix called Budget Brides or something, and one chick spent all year going to thrift stores and collecting doilys and vintage wine glasses for her wedding and I thought it was genius!

I feel like I have been planning my wedding for ever. However when I began I brought wedding planning books I had a book that David Tutera wrote and he gave the advice of not blowing the budget on alot of small things. Because the cost add up. I 100% agree with doing wedding purchases on black friday/cyber monday because you can definitely see huge savings. Sign up for different wedding sites you will always be informed when a sale os going on. But at this point you must know that whatever you purchase now you will definitely use on your wedding day. As others have brought up you have to allocate space for the things you buy.

There is both good and bad to this!

    Bad:
-You need space (I had to wait until after Christmas to be able to get the space to store everything.)
-Your tastes may change (We rented items through our rental company that I am going to take off because over the past year, my vision has changed a couple times in terms of the look since I felt my initial idea looked too cheesy.)

    Good:
-You get things crossed off the list
-You can budget easier instead of having to spend it all during the last few months which may come with unexpected costs

I would only buy things you absolutely know you won't change your mind on. 2 years is a long time. I planned for a year and 8 months and while my overall vision didn't drastically change, there are things I changed my mind on and I ended up wasting money.

Buy generic things that aren't so set in your theme. Like maybe your card box, or your flower girls basket, etc. Things that likely won't change.
