Buying flatware vs renting it

Marlie, on May 4, 2020 at 12:42 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 6
The flatware with my preferred vendors rental company is super expensive
Buying it seems to be a cheaper route.. but what am i going to do with 200+ forks??
Have any of you bought your own flatware. I don’t want to do plastic either.

You Can Sell Them When Your Finished. Theres Alot of Brides On Facebook Marketplace, And Other Pages That Would Use Them If You Sell Them Cheaper Then What You Paid For. We Plan On Buying Our Own Chargers And Reselling Them After.

Just something to consider when buying— who will be washing them after the wedding? I know with my venue, they wouldn’t wash personal flatware or ones rented from a third-party company. I rented mine (along with glassware) and the rental company just picked them up dirty and that was the end of it. I definitely didn’t feel like washing 175+ sets of flatware and glassware the day after my wedding. Haha

You could resell on Facebook market place or donate some to homeless shelters near you!

I opted for wooden flatware. It’s disposable/recyclable. It looks nice (depending on your theme). For my outdoor wedding, that just seemed logical. You can buy it on amazon. They’re sturdy and nice and a nice alternative to buying your flatware or using plastic forks.

I would look on resell web then resell them after you are done, with just cleaning them in a tub after(like a 3 sink compartment). You could also Pay some middle/high schoolers to do it if you dont want to.

My sister-in-law’s parents insisted on buying the flatware and had to collect all the dirty utensils after the reception. This was for a 200 person wedding, so they had buckets to dump these in to take home and wash later. They didn’t mind doing this so if you have a relative or friend who is willing to do this then go ahead so you newlyweds don’t have to do it yourself. Note that some flatware did get lost so didn’t end up with the exact number as what was bought.

When you rent something for your wedding, you aren't just paying to borrow the item, you are paying for a full service including transportation, storage, washing and sanitation, set-up (depending on item), etc. Do you want to worry about bringing the flatware to your venue, making sure everything is clean beforehand, and afterwards having to clean up and bring home dirty utensils, wash them, store them, and take the time to advertise and sell them?
