Buying a dress you can't try on........

Liza, on November 26, 2013 at 4:04 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

I'm on a super tight budget and I have fell in love with a few Davids Bridals gowns. But the bad part is you can only purchase online. I have called and they aren't available in the stores. Has anyone done this ? If so how did it work out ?

I would try a similar one on in the store so you can get your size right. Their sizing is pretty steady between the different DB gowns. That dress is gorgeous!

Definitely try on something similar!!! They should be able to pull out similar dresses for you! what i thought I would love, wasn't what I loved ON me. I've read a few posts about brides returning David bridal gowns. Maybe ask about that?

I agree with the ladies above! I tried on dresses I thought would look great on me and then one (a mermaid) that i knew would be horrible and the mermaid one looked the best out of them all.

Is there another DB near you that you could try? Maybe they'll have it? Maybe check their return policy also...personally, I had one dress that I LOVED on paper, but then I tried it on and it looked horrible on me. I think a wedding dress is a pretty important (and expensive!!) clothing purchase to make without trying it on...but if they will let you exchange or return it go for it!

Totally agree with the above ladies! I thought I knew what I wanted but when I went into the salon and tried it on, it looked horrible on me! I ended up getting a dress that I didn't expect to even like, let alone LOVE! Plus, the dress I ended up getting was also 6 sizes bigger than my pants size. Weird, I know. But some designers tend to run smaller than others and some are more true to size. Try on an almost identical one first, and go from there.

I bought a dress online from DB and didn't like it once I tried it on. I contacted them and got a special return code ( Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) Number) , made sure that number was inside the box and sent it with a tracking code from the post office. I received the refund within 30 days.

    Here is there return policy:

The return policy at DB is better than most in the industry, however, be careful ordering a dress you haven't tried on. If you have tried on similar styles, go for it, but just know that not all the dresses look the same when they're on.

Having said that...I am the bride who saw her dress on a mannequin, thought "That is the dress for me!" tried it on and knew it was the one. (...I then tried on 20+ other dresses to be sure...but none compared and I was SURE SURE SURE).

You have time...not like TONS of time...so like the others said, maybe try on a few similar cuts first, before you order. Good luck and let us know what you do!

It's risky. You may like it on the model and then once you put it on you may hate it. Like the other ladies said, you should go into DB and try on similar dresses to see if you even like that style

I fell in love with a dress and it wasn't available to try on. I went to the boutique anyway and tried on a couple of dresses. I wasn't sure I wanted something so blingy as the dress I was in love with, and I also had no idea what size I was in that designer. I made the decision to purchase the dress after trying on similar ones, and I am 100% IN LOVE now that I have it.

I really really like that dress. I would take the advice above just to protect yourself.

I ordered one from DB online without ever having tried it on and it fit fine. I ended up returning it because I was in a war with myself picking out a dress, but the experience was fine. I would make sure you know your measurements. If you have those, you'll be fine.

Thanks ladies for the feedback ! Those are a lot of my concerns about buying online. There is only one DB in my area.

I ordered my dress online from DB. It was so more amazing than I ever dreamed of. I LOVE it. I did go first and try on a bunch of dresses, so I knew basically what size I needed.

Have you tried any other dresses on? I would recommend trying a taffeta gown on to make sure you like the fabric, and that you also try some on with a similar cut to make sure you like the style on you. What I thought I would like when I was browsing online ended up being what I hated in-person!
