Buyer’s remorse?

Kristin, on December 19, 2019 at 12:29 AM Posted in Planning 0 4
Hey all! So I’ve been planning my Michigan 10/2020 wedding from Arizona and a lot of the research we’ve done has been from online reviews (including here). Any of you future brides have buyer’s remorse? Because we have more guests than I initially thought (guest count is 250 and my FH’s list accounts for a little more than half of that which he later added after our original count) and we already went over budget because of that, we went with a lesser known photographer. The one I initially wanted STARTED at 5k which was an immediate ‘no’ but I can’t help but see her photos online and think they’re beautiful. The photographer we have has 5.0 star reviews and is half the cost with a 2nd shooter- but they don’t have as much of a online presence for me to be looking at. The reviews on here and The Knot give him over 200 reviews and 5 stars but again just can’t help that there’s no real online presence. It’s 2019- everyone is on social media in my opinion. We put a deposit down on the 2 shooters but could still get some back. Should I just trust the reviews?

Since you’re seeking more pics, ask the photographer to see various photos from 3-4 weddings that he did.

I totally understand being nervous about making sure the photographer you hire is going to be perfect for you. Some business owners don't have as huge of an online presence but I don't think that's necessarily a red flag or anything. Most of my vendors (including photographer) fly a little under the radar but I love the work I have seen, so I have faith in them! To put your mind at ease, definitely ask him/her directly for more examples of their wedding photos.

I always ask the photographer for more photos of weddings they have done so that I can get a good sense of their style, posing, and framing. For the the photographer is one of the most important vendors (second only to the venue), so I scrutinize them heavily. It's discouraging how expensive they are, but at the end of the day the photos are all that you will have to look back on, so it's worth getting a photographer that you like!

For me, the hardest thing when looking through the photos was remember that my wedding will be very different from other weddings, so the scenery, colours, accessories, etc will be unique to me, and I won't get shots identical to what the photographer has already done.

We got our engagement photos as part of our package, so that we could get familiar with our photographer, and her work.

We love her! So glad that we took a chance. She doesn't have a huge wedding portfolio, but she will now.
Just because they don't have a huge social presence, it doesn't mean they don't have quality work.
    Good luck!❤
