Buy or not to buy?

Skylar Parris, on January 24, 2021 at 3:50 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24
Guys, I’m torn and I need help! So I just went into a bridal salon to Figure out what style looks good on me and I think I found my dress. I keep wanting to put it back on and keep wearing it. I could picture myself walking down the isle in it. Now here is the kicker. My wedding is October 8th,2023. I have not planned to lose weight anytime soon. The dress I tried on was a 28W and it was way way to big on me and a 24W was skin tight. So I need a 26W which they do have. My problem is should I buy it or not. Should I just forget about this dress and look closer to my date? I’m so torn on what to do? I do know that if I do gain a lot of weight then a 28W will have to be my size. But a 26W can be let out to that size. This dress is all me all over it. I love it that it is plain and that it has pockets. So because this dress is at David’s bridal they won’t have this dress when I get married. This dress will be gone by next year. So this is why I’m very torn. This style of dress is what I like and My taste more than likely won’t change. This dress has everything I wanted in it for an amazing price. Also here is a picture of me in the dress. This dress after tax is under $600. Also sorry about the bad photos.Buy or not to buy? 1

I think it's a very flattering dress. If you feel like this is your dress that maybe you should just go for it. You would just have to be very diligent about keeping it stored safely so it is still in the same condition by your wedding. If you think you have different styles you want to try on, or look for then I would wait. 2023 is a while away, so you have plenty of time.

Love this dress on you!! Agree with Savannah on the storage - excellent point! I would ask the alterations team at David’s Bridal how easy to take it in would be. I say go for it!! It’s really beautiful ❤️

Can you get the 28 and get it altered down to your size closer to the date? I wouldn't get a smaller size unless you're actively making a plan to lose weight. I would try on a few more dresses now just to make sure there isn't anything else you may like. 2023 is pretty far away so you never know if your taste in style will change, but they say when you know, you know!

So many great points! Biggest point is storage. If you love this dress & can visualize getting married in it, then I’d get it. Talk with your seamstress about the alterations but I’d get the bigger size.

I got my dress pretty early as well, and DB said if I just keep it in a closet in the garment bag it’ll stay. My best friend used a seamstress when she got married who kept the dress at her shop until the day before the wedding to make sure the dress stayed ok. If this is the dress I say go for it! And get the 28w, you can always have it altered down.

It's a beautiful dress on you but I would WAIT. So many people on here have dress regret, and a lot of it stems from buying a dress too early. The venue could change, your circumstances could change, time of year, theme (even if it's not a theme-y theme) like boho vs glamor vs rustic, etc. All of these could make you change your mind. I would wait til 18 months out to seriously think of purchasing.

The dress is very beautiful, but in all honesty I would wait. My wedding is planned for September 2022 & you just never know what’s going to come out between now and then. I’ve been excited af to go try on dresses but have refrained. Along with that, I’ve seemed to notice toward the end of the year a lot of shops have sales. Your style may change in the next year or two & then it would be a waste of money.

Congratulations! Dress looks beautiful! It’s a great price, but ask if it can be altered in case of any weight change. Wedding is still far though..

If you love it, keep getting that really excited feeling, and just want to keep wearing it, that is the dress! I think it suits you well! And sounds like a really good deal!

Always, always, always get the bigger size. It is much easier to take a dress in, than it is to take it out. I would get the dress. It looks great on you!

Congrats for saying yes!!!! It’s seems that this dress is holding you back from making positive transitions in your life. You change everyday so as your taste and the world. I would hold off on buying the dress this year and see where you are with your goals 6 months from now. There plenty of new opportunities out there for you and you have the time to shop around 🙂 hope this is helpful

I got my dress already and I still have 628 days before before I say I do. But I love my dress and couldn't resist. I got it a size to big as its easier to take it in then let mine out. If you love it that much only you can be the one to say yes! But if you can wait a month and think about it then do that. If you forget about it in that month then you have your answer. If you don’t forget it go back and get it.

Well money isn’t stoping me but everyone I talk to about this either tells me to buy it or just wait. I really do like the dress. I am going to try and go back to put it on again to make my final decision.

    Hi Skylar,

I currently work for David's Bridal. I dont see this style going out any time soon. This style is highly popular. Im sure it will still be around at least until next year. With your gown size, You could go down 1 size., but I would keep your current size. With alterations at David's we can take the gown in 2 sizes. In my opinion, I would order now while the style is available. That way you know the gown is being ordered and then delivered to the store. With alterations, I would wait until 2023 to get it completed. In addition, I highly recommend that you get your gown altered no later than August. Alterations at Davids is a 4 week process. If you end up going going down 2 sizes you will need to go in a couple times. Alterations is a separate cost from the gown cost.
