Bustle?

Lacy, on October 17, 2019 at 6:34 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

Hi everyone!

My dress should be ready to be picked up in a few weeks and I will then start the alteration process. I am having trouble trying to decide how I should bustle it. I really like the look of a french bustle for a crepe dress but my train also has the lace on it. You can see in one of the photos that the sales associated pulled it up in an american bustle just to show us and I feel like it just doesn't look as sleek as it does with the train down. Did anyone have any similar trains that they did an under bustle with? I am having trouble finding crepe/lace trains online for examples. TIA xoxo

I know what you are talking about! I was in the same boat. I had my seamstress take sod train length off, then we did a custom bustle like a French but kept the shape of me dress slim do it didn’t look “off”

Beautiful dress!! I typically prefer the look of the French bustle on most dresses too but I actually really like the American bustle on yours! it looks seamless and gorgeous in the back. I think mine will end up having an American bustle as well.

IMO a bustle should simply make the dress skirt look fuller. It’s a beautiful gown and looked good the way the sales person did it. With French bustles, they look bustled, and sometimes don’t do the gown justice. When you go for alterations, try it different ways to see what you like best. This was my daughter’s American bustle - you wouldn’t even know it had a train!

Ya it's almost like I want to remove the lace on the train after the ceremony and then just put the crepe up in a bustle lol! Do you have any pics of yours??

Thank you so much!! I think the part i'm not liking is all the lace when it's pulled up in an american bustle, I wanted more of the crepe showing but not sure how it'll look in a french either! I didn't even know about it until recently hah!

Oh wow ya you would never know she had a train at all!! I guess I was hoping to keep it slim looking somehow but I suppose it'll be hard with pulling up such a long train :/

I’m sorry I don’t ! I have never taken a pic of my dress lol after I bought it I gave it right to my seamstress to keep - tried it on once after made some suggestions/decisions (until we start really working on it, I won’t try it on or see it again until I go back in to start everything in the spring 😬lol

Unfortunately not because your train is so big but its still pretty the way she had it! (My favorite bustle I've seen tbh)

Aw thank you soo much!!! I actually looked at your post yesterday about the alterations - I had the same exact concerns!! The sample I have on here is a size 14 and my measurements were right in between a 6/8, they decided to go with an 8. I was a little worried but after reading tons of posts, it seems best to go with a bit bigger so I feel much better about doing the 8. I love yours. I feel like our trains are similar, how are you planning on doing the bustle?

So im sorry about the awful picture but i think it gets the point across. I was looking at a dress similar to yours with some lace detailing at the bottom, not as much as yours, but some. I was looking at pictures on line of how other people bustled the dress and the picture below was how this gal did her bustle on hers. im in love with the way it looks! i think it would suit your dress too and maybe they could pin it in a way that shows off all the lace frenchBustle? 7

I agree! I was a little panicked about what the cost of alterations would be with having to take the entire thing in now but all of the other posters seemed to get a ton done to their dress for a relatively reasonable price. Ours being crepe are also only 1-2 layers so that should scale back on cost a ton. Thank you so much! I honestly have no idea! haha I don't even know the differences. The way she has it done in the photo looks gorgeous! The lace on my dress is thicker and "stiff" so I'm not positive what my options will be. Once you get your actual dress in, I think it will look less bulky. There's a ton of excess fabric on it because that's the sample and not your sizeSmiley smile

Can she pin it up for you in a french bustle so you can see what it will look like?

Just incase anyone is wondering - I ended up going with a french/under bustle. She pinned both so we could see and the french looked so classic. I'll post a photo when I get it Smiley smile

So I have the same dress as you 😊 I was hoping you could share a photo of how your bustle turned out? I feel like so many bustles I see, I don’t like the look of it. Especially with our style dress with all the beautiful lace detailing in the train!
