Bustle Trouble

elissa, on February 5, 2019 at 9:14 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

My wedding is less than two weeks away and I am extremely worried about my wedding dress. I loved my dress since I put it on the first time in the store. I had no doubts about it until the seamstress bustle it. The seamstress used an over bustle using 1 point right below my butt area. The dress was still so long and I have no idea how I am going to dance in it. She said that was the only way to bustle it because the fabric is delicate and the train is heavy. My dress has lace fabric. I attached a picture below with the dress not bustle. I don't have a picture of the dress bustle. It fits so well and it is perfect for my body type. The only problem is the bustle and I am not sure what I should do. I can leave the dress the way that it is using 1 point bustle but I will be suffering during dancing. Or I can go to another seamstress to get an second opinion. Or I can get another dress to change into during the reception but I rather not because I love the dress and I spend a lot of money on it. I want to wear the dress the whole night and enjoy dancing to the music. Please give me your opinion. I really appreciate it.

I don't know much about bustling but I think getting a second opinion is a good idea. I know that I've seen pictures of dresses with I think three point bustles? That might work with a longer dress but not sure. Your dress is stunning and if I were you I also wouldn't want to change into a second dress!

I would go get a second opinion on the bustle! My dress had to have one point for the satin under lay, and 7 for the top couple layers of dress including lace. I would think having only one point would be way too heavy and it would break.

I would definitely get a second opinion. I have not gone to my fittings yet but my friend had a very delicate lace overlay on hers... she had a french bustle with 5 points for the under skirt and an additional 3 on top for the lace. I wish I could find a pic of it for you, sorry Smiley sad

My dress was heavy with a lace overly and I had an underbustle with 3 ties and a 5 point over bustle for the lace layer alone.

That looks like WAY too much dress for a 1 point over bustle. I would think the heavier it is the more you would want.

Definitely agree with others here, to get a second opinion. Check out seamstresses in your area on Yelp and see who gets good reviews. You want someone knowledgeable.

I agree, get a second opinion. My train is lace and very delegate and I’m getting it double bustled with five points. If it’s too heavy, one point will not last.

Thank you for your comments. I had a friend who used to be a seamstress come to my dress fittings with me. She also said that using 1 point is the only way and the dress is going to rip even with 1 more or points. I don't understand why I can't bustle the dress using more points. I thought wedding dresses are designed to be bustle.

If there are no other bustle options, can you get a wrist strap to hold your train while dancing? It is not ideal but might be easier than a long train!

Gorgeous dress. My dress is also very heavy and I just had my bustle appointment. She is doing a 3 or 5 point I think? It’s so heavy though it feels like it’s pulling my dress down so I'm really nervous. Did yours feel like that?
