Bustle Points

Amanda, on June 11, 2018 at 10:48 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18
Hi everyone! I had my first alterations appointment yesterday. It went really well and I can’t wait to try it on again Smiley smile The only shocker though is about my bustle. Apparently due to all the fabric I need 23 bustle points! It’s been a day now and I’m still in shock lol How many points are on the bustles of your gowns?

23?! Wow! How much fabric do you have/how big is your dress? Mine is 3. Pretty easy from what I saw.

Holy wow that sounds like a lot! Do you have a picture?? I'm an August bride too and also had an alterations appointment yesterday it's so exciting! I didn't want to deal with a train (outdoor ceremony and I'm a clumsy) so I'm just going with floor length dress all around.

Here’s a picture of the back of the dress on the model. The bottom of the dress has 3 separate layers of fabric.

I'm no expert is bustles but I just feel like 23 is A LOT. But as long as they show your bridesmaids/mom/etc. how to do it, there shouldn't be a concern!

Mine was only 3 and I have an above average length train. 23 bustle points is ALOT. Is it creating a totally new illusion for the dress?? It will take your BM or MOB forever to put all of that up. Did your seamstress give other options??

Um, my dress was bigger and had 4 layers and I had a 5 point. Get a second opinion.

What kind of bustle are they trying to add?

I second what JustKidding said about getting another opinion. 23 is a TON. I've seen people struggle to get a 5 point bustle done. I can't even imagine your bridal party trying to get a 23 point bustle done

Time for a second opinion. There is no reason for 23 points unless you are going for a bunchy look.

Wow, I thought mine was a lot! I had a 12 point bustle and it took 2 people nearly 20 minutes to get it bustled. I had several layers of silk chiffon.

I’d definitely check with someone else, or at least discuss concerns with the seamstress. I had a single bustle with 2 points and that was challenging enough for the wedding coordinator, who does it all the time...I can just see issues.

It won’t look as bunchy when it’s done. There was another person there who had just 2 points less than me dress and a very similar dress so I could see what it’ll truly look like. There’s 5 points on the outside, then 9 each on the bottom 2 layers of fabric.

I agree with PPs - I'm no expert but that sounds like an insane number, my dress is super layered and has a train and I am going to have 7 points

I would get a second opinion. My first alteration place put in 12 bustle points, I ended up going to another alteration place and she changed it to 5. I am so glad I switched to the five due to the time it takes to bustle (your wedding will go faster than you can imagine). Also, I ended up taking mine back down because I wanted a sunset pic, so it got done twice.

Mine is pretty simple with just 3. But 23 really seems like a lot! I would definitely get a second opinion. You want to make sure your bridesmaids or whoever is helping you is able to remember how to do it.

Mine said I will probably need 8- 11 but it is a 15 ft train and all heavy satin. It will be a French bustle with 3 layers (heights?) the top will have 2-3 connections and it will sit right under my waist - taking the fabric that is mid calf when it is all down up underneath, the next will be about mid thigh level with the fabric about a foot behind me when it is down connecting up and will have 3-4 and the bottom will be just below my knees with the fabric about a foot from the end connecting up and will have 3-4 points.

Years later here but my bustle will be 22pts and doesnt seem exessive at all. Id have disliked anything less. Its extremely elegant and creates the most gorgeous effect. Anything less would have looked frumpy in my opinion so I hope this input helps any other women looking at this discussion!
