Bustle points?

Melody , on January 22, 2017 at 2:57 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

I went to my fitting today and she told me Im going to have 19 points. 19! Granted it looked beautiful and I trust her but that still seems nuts to me. How many points did/will you have? Granted my dress is a full tulle ballgown so there is a ton of fabric to be bustled.

My sister had a giant skirt (the woman who did alterations took something like 15 yards of tulle out, since she got married on a boat, but you couldn't really tell). She only had 4 or 5 points.

Mine will only have 3, but since it's chiffon it's on the lighter side.

With that many bustle points, make sure you have someone take a video with your seamstress explaining where all the points are and how to bustle it. It'll come in handy for your wedding!

Mine had 10 points. Definitely take your bridesmaids or mom with you for your last fitting where she'll show you how to do the bustle. If you go to the appointment alone (like I did), make sure you record what she does on your phone so your bridesmaids can recreate it. I wish I had. My bridesmaids did a good job, but in the salon, she did it a certain way so that it laid nicely and you couldn't really tell there was a bustle.

Photo of train at last fitting and photo of bustled gown at reception (came from someone's cell phone so it's an unflattering shot, but you see the bustle is a little off).

@dena what fabric is yours? I was told tulle generally needs more so it doesnt tear.

I'm not getting a bustle. To me, it seemed pointless!

@futuremrs do you not have a train? People will be stepping on it all through your reception

My alterations lady is literally putting "one" in. I don't have multiple layers, it's a basic satin skirt (A-line). I think it's American style bustle, not French.

Mine had 10 points. All 3 of my BMs volunteered to come to my final fitting to learn how to bustle it. Not the greatest pic but I think that you can see the before and after.
