Bustle on Tulle Gown

Kalin, on August 21, 2017 at 8:02 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

I went for my second fitting and I HATE the bustle the seamstress made. I have a tulle ballgown with a long train, and she put on 12 (12!) clear buttons on the waistline for the bustle. She says you wont be able to see the buttons, but I can and they look horrible. The dress does look beautiful when it is bustled, but i cant get over the buttons. Any suggestions? Picture of the dress below; i dont have a pic w the bustle. She is making me a grosgrain belt that i will put over the buttons, but this is not my first choice Smiley sad

My tulle wedding dress was unable to have a bustle. It has a loop underneath the back of the train. I wanted a bustle but they cannot do one.

I'm so sorry, OP! Did she not pin how the dress would look with the bustle at the first appointment? My seamstress pinned mine to make sure it was what I wanted. Can you express your feelings and see if she is able to bustle it a different way?

Is it the bustle or the buttons you have issues with? If it's just the buttons, can they be switched out to hooks instead?!? IDK...just throwing that out there.

The belt should definitely help in hiding the buttons, as well.

I have a tulle skirt as well, but there's kind of a tulle overlay/belt that covers where my buttons are. Is that an option for you versus an actual belt?

I'm not sure why people bother with bustles

@Heartbweeps, I'm having a bustle to avoid guests from stepping on the back of the dress. For dresses with a shorter train, this may not be an issue.

Would different buttons be better? Pearl maybe?

@Heartbweeps A bustle isn't much an option when the train is longer. I'm concerned about getting stepped on and ripping my dress.

I had a tulle skirt on my dress and I had 12 buttons on my bustle. 7 on the inner layer and 5 on the outer layer. I promise no one will notice the bustle. I saw the pictures people took of me from the back and I can't see the buttons at all. Smiley smile

I think the buttons are super noticeable to you, but may not be as noticeable to your guests. I feel your pain! Mine only has 3 buttons but they're directly below my butt and I couldn't stop staring at them. Your guests won't be staring at your buttons though. =]

@ambrok @beccalynn why not make the train shorter? I think it's an odd design choice that wedding dresses have extra length in the back. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the people who rock trains.

Maybe instead of making the buttons transparent, put a piece of lace on top of them or some crystals so it seems like it belongs to the dress. An other Idea which I used was magnets that are hidden under the dress, and small pieces of metal that are hidden under the tulle. But I think the others are right, no guests will notice.

I have a tulle ball gown and my seamstress did the bustle style that tucks the train underneath. There are multiple ties on the inside of the gown. It almost looks like a bubble hem when she pinned it. It just looks like a train less ballgown when bustled

I'm with PPs in that no one will notice the buttons besides you. Smiley smile

And if you're wearing a veil, even YOU won't notice them any more!

I have my second fitting this saturday. I also have a long tulle train. Seamstress said she would show me three options. Am now curious what they will be. Will share.
