Bustle down the aisle?!

Leanna, on June 1, 2017 at 4:55 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24

Hi, fellow brides-to-be! So I purchased a used designer wedding dress for my Nov. 4th wedding. It has been professionally dry cleaned, but unfortunately the train is still a bit mud-stained. I've been agonizing for months over what I should do for my dirty train. I could get it dry cleaned again, but I don't want to damage the fabric. Would it be totally weird if I just walked down the aisle with the train bustled? I do really love how my dress looks bustled. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

(The photo below is how it looks bustled)

Ultimately if that's what you gotta do, I say go for it. There is no right or wrong way to wear your dress. And for a situation like this, if having the train isn't important to you, you already have your answer. Do what YOU feel more comfortable in. This won't impact your guests in any way, so this is one of those things where nothing else matters except how YOH, the bride, feels.

We just finished soaking an entire dress in biz and it worked wonders to get the stains out (60 year old dress with dirt at bottom and extremely yellowed). I thought the fabric was going to fall apart but surprisingly it didn't. We started by doing part of the underside to make sure it wouldn't fall apart. You could potentially try to do that with yours.

When we just did the bottom we hung it in the shower and soaked the bottom 8 inches in a new trashcan filled with biz. ETA: I don't think having the bustle up looks bad at all Smiley smile

I don't think it would be weird. I doubt your guests will even notice, honestly.

The dress looks great and I think if you have it bustled no one would notice. If you still want the illusion of a train you can always add a long veil

Honestly I would just have the train cut off. I can see the bottom of the train still in that picture. Or, as others suggested, try soaking it.

It does look lovely like that, it just looks like interesting draping rather than a bustle. Is the staining low enough on the train that you could have a seamstress take off an inch or two of the end, would that be enough to remove the staining? Does this bustle hide the stained part, because it looks pretty clean in the pic you've shared, are you sure the staining is noticeable when the train is let out?

It's a beautiful dress; (i'm thinking ombre dying, but i'm crazy today....) could you trim the train?

I think it looks just fine as is though...

    How dirty is it?

I'm guessing no one would think twice- it's quiet common for people to do a first look and pictures in advance- I'd say get it as clean as you can and go for it- no one's going to care.

You can always have your dress bustled and buy a long veil for drama to make up for a short/lack of train !

Thank you so much for all the responses! Mariah G, what is biz? I would totally soak the train in the tub if I knew what to use! I could definitely get it cut off, but I'm not quite sure how expensive or hard that would be. Since my dress has horsehair trim along the edges, it may be more complicated to remove the train. I will take some close-ups of the dirt later tonight. I'm probably just over-thinking this and maybe the stains are only super visible to me. Here is a picture of the front of my dress Smiley smile
