Bustle? David's bridal alterations? I really want to save money here!

FutureMrsMerritt, on January 31, 2015 at 4:28 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

I got my dress from David's bridal and have alterations starting in June with them. I have been looking around trying to find the best deals for alterations. I got my dress right off the rack but am missing a little "tie" thing at the top shoulder of my dress which they said they would add on for free, since the other side clearly has one- great. I am also super short so she said the only extra alterations I need is to make the dress a little shorter and add the bustle. She quoted $300 or under. However my dress was that price so I want to spend way less then that. As far as the bustle I don't want it pinned up in the back, I decided my style is more of having the wristlet to hold it up which means only the front needs to be shortened so I can walk. Do you think the wristlet would make it any cheaper? Should I look else where then david's bridal? ( mind you I still need to go back and get the tie thing added on) First two is what I am picturing and the last one I hate.

Thats seems really expensive. I'm paying $250 at a well reviewed tailor for four bustles, replacing the two privacy panels with a single privacy panel, extending the corest back with an extra set of loops, and a longer corset string.

My dress was $450 from DB and my alterations were about $350. Gotta have that bustle though so I can dance!

Since you said you were short, you might want to check that the wristlet won't let your dress drag on the ground. It can be awkward if you have to hold your arm above your shoulder to keep the dress from dragging. The train can be draped over your arm, which may be fine for walking but not comfortable for dancing. Just some thoughts; it really depends upon the length of the train on you. Congratulations on the great deal on your dress though! Unfortunately alterations are expensive no matter what the cost of the gown, but you are still ahead. The wristlet carry is a beautiful look.

Yea that is exactly what I am worried about. I am exactly 5'0 ft. So it may not be enough to lift it completely. I think I will definitely check around though and weigh my options. A lot of people seem to be getting a lot more alterations done for the same price they quoted me for just one thing.

I got my dress at DB and stuck with them for alterations. My hem was $95, bustle $65 and side alterations were $65... for $225 total. It was worth it. Also, I didn't think I'd be a fan of the bustle, but it turned out great. It looked perfect with the dress, it was easy for my friend to do without practice and it stayed really well. Your arms may get tired holding up dress all night and it might make it more difficult to interact and hug everyone.

Added: My dress was only $99 when I purchased it on sale.

I got my dress from David's as well right off the rack for $350. I'm so little (5 foot 90 lbs) they had to do a lot. Alterations with them ended up costing $430!! I would recommend looking elsewhere. David's is pricey as it is.
