Bustle buttons

Caroline, on December 9, 2021 at 10:00 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 9
I’m getting married in three weeks and yesterday I picked up my dress from alterations after a bustle was added. I’m not in love with the way the bustle looks but understand it’s supposed to be functional and most don’t love them. But what I’m upset about is the button choice they used. My dress is super simple satin fit and flare and they put these five big plastic buttons on the back of it to hold the bustle. I’m so worried this will look horrible and cheap when the dress is not bustled as I walk down the aisle. The alterations place assured me this was standard… I’m not sure what I was expecting, perhaps something in a satin that matched the dress?

See button pictures below and well as the back of my full un-bustled dress for reference. Has anyone else had experiences with buttons like this for an over bustle? Any better ideas for buttons? Or am I over thinking something no one will notice?
Thanks!!Bustle buttons 1Bustle buttons 2

I don’t see them at all in the distance picture, but so see what you mean in the up close one. Unfortunately I am still waiting to get mine back from getting the bustle done, so I’m no help. But I honestly think people won’t notice unless you point it out to them.

You can’t notice them at all from the distance picture. I don’t think anyone will notice at all. Mine were all clear as well and no one noticed.

I don’t notice them at all in that far away picture! And if you have a long veil on they definitely will be concealed. Good news is, during the ceremony most people are far enough away from you that they would never notice, and by the time you’re closer with people and fencing etc, the dress will already be bustled!

They are not even visible in the full back picture.

My lace dress has a 9-button bustle that uses the same clear plastic buttons that are shown on your dress. I do think it's standard.

The only time they were noticeable in pictures with the bustle down was when the light happened to catch them just right - because they are clear they are reflective too. However I think that would be less of an issue on a satin dress because the fabric itself is shiny, vs my lace dress which had a matte fabric.

No one will notice. I literally thought the second pic was a “before” pic bc even searching, I can’t see them at all.

This is normal. Almost every dress has them but when you think about the weddings you’ve been to…have you ever noticed them? I certainly haven’t

Thanks so much for weighing in, I feel better that no one will notice! Although that second picture was the before picture and the after picture did not upload 🤦🏼‍♀️ Here it is with the bustle added… still not terribly noticeable and great point that veil will cover the back anyway. ☺️

I had this issue, although mine were at the waist. I went back & had them add smaller buttons even though they didn’t want to (less secure). Ultimately, I should have pushed for what I really wanted, a French/under bustle—they talked me out of it because it’s more difficult (both for them & for the person doing it day of). I’m still bitter about it, but the issue for me was actually when it was put up—I didn’t want butt points and that’s exactly what I got. When unbustled it was totally fine & no one saw the buttons, so I can confirm that the buttons themselves shouldn’t be an issue!

Do you happen to have wedding photos of the end results? I’m worried that they’ll show up in pictures on my dress
