Bury the Bourbon - Southern Wedding Tradition

Private User, on July 17, 2014 at 11:13 AM Posted in Planning 0 14

Okay, so the Tradition is this "Southern folklore says that if you bury a bottle of bourbon at the site where the bride and groom are to be married it won’t rain on their wedding day. According to many believers, this must be done exactly one month before the wedding, the bottle must be completely full, and it must be buried upside down to ensure maximum weather persuasion."

My question is "How specific do you have to be regarding the ONE MONTH rule?!

Example: Our wedding is Saturday Oct 4th. Does that mean we bury September 4th (Which is a Thursday) or 4 weeks before (would be September 6th a Saturday like our wedding)"

LET ME KNOW IF THIS HAS WORKED FOR YOU! Smiley smile

    That's an awful expensive tradition! Do you ever dig it up?

    You dig it up after the ceremony and drink it at the reception. It doesn't have to be a gallon but don't make it a small airplane sizer either. I would go with a fifth! It's really a win-win situation! I was just confused on the whole month part of it.

    I was going to say September 6th because that is our anniversary....hahaha

    but I love this idea! We are getting married inside, so I can't do it.... but that is SO NEAT! I love wedding traditions from all over the world...but the south has some super fun ones.

    That is the most funnest, coolest tradition I have ever heard, true or not, and I love it!

    But if you're going to bury bourbon, use something cheaper than Makers Mark!!!

    Yes, you definitely don't want it to be cheap liquor, especially not at your wedding!

    There is a superstition about hanging brooms in a tree the day before the wedding. It is supposed to keep the rain away. I don't have any idea why.

    @CrystalS

    That is definitely a weird one...I don't know if I want brooms hanging in the trees. I also don't think one broom would do it...and I don't want to go door-to-door asking neighbors if I can borrow their brooms! LOL
