Burgers cooked?

Laken, on January 8, 2020 at 7:29 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 16

We are doing burger bar for our wedding. I had a friend suggest to include how people want their burgers cooked on my invite. My fiancé is not a fan of this idea. Any suggestions?

Hmm.. is it a burger station where it will be cooked as the guest gets to the station or are they precooked and more as a buffet style??

Lol you’re fine! They will already be cooked. Kind of buffers style where they can make their own burger with different toppings.

Yeah, I agree with your fiance. I'd keep those details off of the invitation. It would be hard for this to work, especially since you mentioned above that the burgers will already be cooked. Are you planning on having burgers already made in different states? E.g medium rare in one heating pan, medium well in another, well done in another? I feel like maybe if you can have some signage that would be helpful. If it was a live station, this would be so much easier as all your guests would have to do is tell the chef right there how they'd want their burgers done. Perhaps if you're adamant about your guests being able to choose how well they want their burgers, you can put this on the RSVP page of your website (if you have one) and they can choose the options, and then you can go from there!Smiley heart

My feelings about burgers in all situations is..if you're going to ask how I like it..it should be cooked that way. So for your wedding where you will be providing the food..i would say not to ask. One less this to stress about

My friend did a burger buffet and since the venue was cooking it she did not ask how we take it. If it is buffet style I doubt they would do to order.

I guess it all depends on the cater and how they work. all you got to do is asked them first if they have that opinion.

allowing guests to customize their food, will make them feel special and appreciate your wedding. so, Yes, definitely go for customization, but as long as it's ok with your budget.

I agree with pp -- generally, hamburger should be cooked to 160 degrees to ensure the meat is safe. I would NOT ask guests their preference and I wouldn't give them an option; all meat should be cooked to a temperature that will destroy potential bacteria contamination (which is a risk with ground meat). I would expect any licensed caterer to insist on this.

I wouldn't, i would have them all cooked the same. it would be impossible to feed everyone on a set time frame if they asked for them different temperatures.

I wouldn't either. I think that's another detail that'd be too much work on your end.

I’d cook them all medium well and call it a day. Cooking tons of burgers all different temperatures would be a lot of work.

I think it's personal preference, but I could also see that getting difficult if you don't have a plan for it. If you wanted to do it you could ask and depending on who circles what, you have separate platters for each type of burger being cooked a specific way; rare, med. rare, etc. You could give the numbers to your caterer and that's how they can determine how much of each to cook.

Personally, my FH and I are also doing a burger-type buffet but we are also having hot dogs and pulled pork with a bunch of sides. We didn't ask how people wanted their burgers cooked because we did not want to have to deal with it.

Agree with your fiance. I've worked in food service enough when I was younger to know that burgers have to be fully cooked to prevent food poisoning. The Food Network shows make people think the new fad is just the outside edges cooked but that is you contract something dangerous like the ecoli outbreak from years ago. Your guests' safety should be first.
