Bulk flowers?

T2018, on December 13, 2017 at 10:54 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 31

Has anyone purchased bulk flowers and created the centerpiece arrangements themselves? Is this an awful idea?

It's not a bad idea but a lot of brides are delusional about how long this will take and how the end product will look. The results are better if you stick to either one type of flower or one color arrangements.

We're doing it. we have access to a wholesaler that sells to the public here in STL, so we're getting our flowers from there and arranging all the fresh flowers ourselves.

it is a lot of work. definitely do your research and know what you want in terms of colors and styles and flowers, and get a florist's opinion, or even do a consultation or meeting with one to get an idea of what you should do. it definitely takes a lot of time and effort.

Yes, I think it's an awful idea. You can't arrange them too far in advance or they'll be brown by the wedding, and are you really going to want to be stressed about arranging flowers the morning of your wedding, when you're supposed to be getting ready?

I did something like that, but a little different. I purchased Wholesale Centerpieces from FiftyFlowers. The flowers were delivered to my house already packaged for each centerpiece, so all I had to do was cut them and put them in water, so they could open up for the wedding. Although that sounds easy, the hassle of transporting several centerpieces and some smaller arrangements to the wedding venue was a pain. To be completely honest, I don't know if I would do it all over again, but it did save me a good amount of money, so... maybe I would.

I would say, really think about the possible added stress, and if you can afford it, just pay a professional to do it. Good luck!

ETA: I would like to add that I did pay a professional to make the bouquets and boutonnieres. I was definitely not messing with those. They needed to be perfect.

We order my bouquet flowers from Sam's club. Spend $110 on roses and hydrangeas. Look at Sam's Club reviews, flowers stay fresh even a week after the wedding. When they arrive I can bring them to local florist for them to arrange them and ask em to put my bouquet together and make rose corsages. Some of the extra I want for our sweetheart table, for simple decor. Will pick them up the day before wedding. I don't think I am delusional lol. It saves some of my time bringing them to the florist. The cost is less than doing it start to finish with the florist.

We thought of this idea too, but we aren't using flowers for centerpieces. I'm using silk real feel flowers for my bouquets and then ordering greenery in bulk to put on the tables which my coordinator will do when she decorates.

I planned on doing some stuff myself, but ended up booking a florist and a DOC. The day of the wedding, I was surprised at how quickly the day went - I wouldn't have had time to do anything! And while my mom had offered my aunts' help (I wouldn't have accepted), they all commented on how nice the wedding was since they had to work at the majority of my cousins.

I thought about doing this but I think it is a lot of work for the days leading up to your wedding.

Once for an event, I created simple hydrangea centerpieces. I bought the flowers two days prior from a wholesaler florist so they would have time to open up for a Sat night event. I took them home, cleaned off the leaves and placed them in Home Depot buckets (and Quick Dip purchased from florist) and stored them overnight in an empty refrigerator. The next day, I transported them in the buckets to the hotel where I had a booked a room. I assembled the 15 centerpieces in the room. I had two people helping me. The next night, we took the centerpieces down the ballroom on a luggage cart.

I spent $183 on flowers and $66 on the vases

We are doing this, but a HUGE perk for us is that our Venue does a weekend package so we will be able to bring flowers to the venue and put together bouquets the day before. We are doing super simple centerpieces of greenery in vases. We are ordering from Fifty Flowers.

A friend of mine used fifty flowers for her September wedding. Got them three days before the wedding, kept them in their dark basement, I made all of the bouquets and bouts the morning before the wedding. It took a several hours, but it was not bad at all! I enjoyed it, actually. Just make sure you have people to help and make sure you have all of the supplies you Need!

We're not doing centerpieces because they're included in our venue. We are however making our own bouquets. Getting from Dollar tree

It's not an awful idea, per se, but you need to be realistic about expectations/sizes/etc. Be prepared to spend several hours on arrangements, as well as having proper storage and transportation. If you're having a smaller wedding and/or smaller centerpieces, it's very doable, but it can be time consuming. I spent the two days before my wedding arranging flowers, but I enjoyed the heck out of it and love doing flower arrangements. If you're craftily inclined, go for it.

This isn't the greatest picture but you get the idea. We got our flowers from Kroger. The only thing I put together were our centerpieces. The rest was already put together when we picked them up. We had 16 to do. My MOH and I stayed at a cabin on our venue property the night before, drank, and put centerpieces together while watching Wonder Woman. Haha it only took us about an hour and a half to do these. Obviously, they were very simple but looked nice in our venue. We really enjoyed putting them together. Make sure you have a good pair of pruning shears to make it a lot easier! You can do it for sure!

I did mine and I would never do it again. It took five times as long as we thought to put it all together, we had to transport them....

nope. No way. I'd hire a florist in a heartbeat.
