Bulk cocktails... Is that a thing?

Michelle, on February 20, 2017 at 9:34 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

So I'm trying to figure out the most cost effective way to set up our bar. We will be getting two kegs of craft beer from a local brewery and two cases of wine (which should be more then enough for our crowd) . We also want mixed drinks. Several people have suggested making batch cocktails so I can limit the amount of different liquors I have to buy. I didn't think people did this but I found a bunch of different recipes for batch cocktails specifically for weddings on Pinterest. Has anyone done this or been to a wedding where the cocktails were pre-made? We would still have a professional bartender serving everything.

You need a bartender. Premade cocktails are fine, but someone needs to serve them.

For premade cocktails you just wouldn't want anything with carbonation, unless the bartender would float the mixer on top once dispensed.

Sangria would be awesome (you could have a red and a white), margarita, or a spiked lemonade would be great too.

My Man of Honor did this for his wedding. He and I are both HUGE cocktail people. He made massive batches of four of his and his wife's favorite drinks that didn't have to be shaken or anything. It went great!

@ EM thanks for the advice! I was thinking spiked pink lemonade or a spiked punch.

I do batch cocktails for just about every party I throw in my home. I find that picking one to batch to match my theme (plus beer and wine) is less expensive than having ingredients for many different cocktails. I've had success with cosmos, margaritas, mai tais, sidecars and French 75s (mix everything but the champagne, which is added as it is served).

Also - @Celia is right - even with batched cocktails, hire a pro bartender to do the serving. Be sure to consult with them ahead of time because they will likely prefer to be in charge of preparing the cocktails (so they know exactly what is in each portion).

This is a boon to traffic at the beginning too. Several of my venues start the cocktail hour with dozens of glasses of wine and sig drinks on tables so guests can just grab them without having to stand in line. It makes perfect sense
