Built in bra on wedding dress

Chelsea, on July 14, 2020 at 12:31 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 17
So my bridal consultation is next week, and I wanted to know does anyone know if the Tailors can make my built in bra more of a push up type? I didn’t wanna spend any money on a plunge push up bra because I have one built in my dress, it’s just a tad bit big and I want that extra lift.

They can, however keep in mind purchasing a plunge bra may be less expense than the altering of your wedding dress to add the bras.

They sewed in cups for me for $20. The seamstress suggested sewing in 2 cups on each side, so $40 total, but that was too much push for me. But maybe that’s an option.

Yes they can. I actually prefer this over wearing a bra. I’ll have them in mine so I can be bra free, and it will cost around the same as buying a quality plunge bra since I’m a plus size woman and our bras tend to cost more.

I’m plus size as well! I know exactly what you mean lol. I’ve been having a hard time searching for a plunge strapless bra for myself. I prefer the built in bra but I needed to know if I can get that lift.

Thank you! I wanted to go the route of using built in bra because I’m plus size and my bras can be a little pricey.

I know Lane Bryant has plunge strapless bras, but I would definitely check with the seamstress about adding it in the dress. You can also try using boob tape lol. Do a trial run to see how it works for you first. My friend is really busty and used it for her wedding dress and the girls were up and sitting pretty lol.

Yes I will definitely check Lane Bryant. Do you mind telling me which tape she used?

They make push-up cups, so your seamstress would be able to sew these in to an existing bra. Keep in mind they'll only work if your dress is sufficiently tight enough to be similar in level to the support a bra would provide.

When I bought my dress push up cups had been added by the previous owner's seamstress (I got my dress pre-owned) but because the dress is backless/low back and illusion lace on top (so an unstructured fabric) they didn't really do anything for me.

I haven’t used boob tape yet. I was planning on trying it myself. This is the one my friend used. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07TQX5TZH?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

I’m a 36DD sometimes 38DD - trust me, I understand. I’m actually going to tape mine for our wedding.

Have you tried it without a bra? My dress is tight enough up there I get push up and don't need to wear one.

Yes I did it without a bra but I still don’t have the support and lift I want.

This is so true. About it having to be tight enough. No one tells anyone this but I kept thinking it HAS to be the case. I’m on the forum bc I’m looking to add push-up myself. My dress is similar to yours in that it’s low back (although not as low) and illusion plunge in the front. Yours looked great! Did you remove the push-ups or leave it ?

I removed the push-up cups (but retained the liner cups built into the dress) and used boob tape to help keep the girls a bit lifted and in place. Worked great for me! I was really skeptical about the boob tape because all the photos/demos of you see it online for plunge necklines show people taping themselves up to their shoulders or collar bones with the 2" wide tape, and because I had illusion lace straps that thinned at the shoulder I wasn't sure I'd get any support without being able to tape up so high. I am 32D (so "C" cup boobs in seamstress/dress sizes) and was still able to get enough support even with cutting the tape a bit lower. I'm sure the exact design of your dress, density and size of your breasts, etc will be factors but I say give boob tape a try. I also have fair skin that is a bit on the thinner side so was worried the adhesive would rip my skin but I found it to be strong enough to support and not come off even when sweating and dancing, but not so sticky that I couldn't remove it easily at the end of the day (it did leave some immediate redness, like a band aid would when you peel it off but that faded in a similar amount of time).
