Buffet vs. Plated

Am I the only one who hates the idea of having a buffet dinner at their wedding? There’s honestly no real reason (maybe it reminds me too much of my campus dining hall... lol), I’m just super against having a buffet at my reception. Buffet style can be more cost effective and it's much quicker on time. The plated dinner is nice but honestly it's really annoying just sitting around and having to wait to be served. Majority of the time (at least in my experience) other than the long wait time, my food was cold by the time it got to me Smiley sad

We’re doing a buffet! I would agree with a lot of the reasons listed already, especially about more variety!

I am definitely team buffet. I like picking and choosing for myself, and unlike plated, if there is no vegetarian main course, I can pile up the sides.

Plated all the way! No way I'm doing buffet for my wedding, and besides they cost the same so I'll let my guests get served while they chat with the other guests at their table, instead of some long line

I wanted plated too but the cost just so far exceeded our budget ($10k instead of $3k). We did a staffed buffet which kept the line moving.

I'm indifferent! We just went with plated because it was cheaper than buffet and family style at our venue

We went with buffet since it's easier with our venue. Mostly I'm indifferent, but I lean more toward buffet as I have more control over what I eat and what portions I get. To each their own though. As long as I'm fed at a wedding, I'm not particular with how it arrives.

I prefer a plated meal at a wedding. The venue that we chose only does plated meals they don't offer a buffet or family style menu.

Wow. People can be pretty pretentious on here! "I despise buffets"?!?! Really?!?! What...did a buffet run over your puppy during your childhood?

Here's a thought: maybe some people prefer a more casual experience. Maybe some people can't AFFORD plated service.

    Ever think of that?

I'm against buffets too. Our reception will be plated. My guess will already be standing and waiting during cocktail hour so I don't want them to have to do more standing and waiting in a buffet line.
