budget wedding in south jersey

Amber, on December 14, 2011 at 8:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

Hi Smiley smile so i'm having a difficult time finding a place to hold a reception at in south jersey that i can afford. My fiance is in the army and he's coming home soon so we were planning on going to the courthouse when he gets home and not really telling anyone and then getting remarried and having a reception for everyone in a few months. We were going to do it in July but then decided we wanted to do it in may (memorial day wknd) b/c it's a military holiday and hopefully he'll get a long weekend off. We don't want to spend alot of money because we're going to need it considering i am not done school and we're newlyweds. My uncle has a church so to keep the cost down i would do the wedding there (even though it's not where i'd imagined my dream wedding ) but i'm totally stuck on where to have a reception for as little cost as possible (somewhere decent where we can bring our own alcohol and my family can cook) please help! BTW we have about 100 ppl b/c our families are huge !

Have you looked into firehouses or even lodges? I know when my friends have parties they usually do them there - I'm sure south jersey should have something like an Elks lodge that's what we have up in north jersey

I'm from Abesecon so here's a few places I've been to a function at:

Knights of Columbus in Egg Harbor City.

The Hall at Gabriel Field in Galloway Township - contact their athletic dept.

Contact any township Fire Department - they all have halls to rent.

    The Zoo in Cape May.

    There's a Zoo/Ecology Center in Millmay.

McGire AFB has a few spots plus their NCO club.

    Birch Grove park in EHT.

    VFW in Abesecon.

Many of the Condo Associations in Galloway have rec centers that can be rented out.

Marie, Do you have any information on weddings at McGuire AFB? I think my son and fdil might be interested in this. They are also looking for a well priced venue. We are from Central NJ and the bride is from Jackson.

I'm from South Jersey and hear that some firehouses are amazing and really affordable. Also try VFW and Lodges maybe.

Hmmm... Im from Pemberton but I live in the Poconos now you can actually try a place in Hamilton called Cedar Gardens I had my dad's birthday party there and with 150 guests everything included as far as buffet style dinner and open bar came to $3,200 for 5 1/2 hours only thing that wasn't included was the dj but all in all pretty good deal. It was about 2 years ago if you do happen to call ask for Jason

Where do you live at?? You can have the wedding and reception on either Ft.Dix or McGuire since FH is in the military...you can do it all for $3000 using either the NCO club or Officers Club, they have corrdinators for the church and reception...I know because I was going to get married there 2 years ago

Amber - Many of the suburban housing developments in Jersey have "club houses" with kitchens where residents can book parties for a very modest fee. Check with your relatives, since the booking needs to be done by a resident.

@kristen seriously? i live in mullica hill so it's kind of a far drive but i would totally do it. I thought about the beach b/c i know it's cheap to get married on the beach but i'd be screwed if it rained and i don't know where i'd have a reception b/c everywhere at the beach is pretty expensive.

I have looked into a few firehouses but the ones i called all told me i had to get a catering company for food and that's what is killing me.

C's MOm where in Central Jersey are you? There are a lot of nice places up here.

Amber, You can try VFW's but remember if you get a price you like ask about linens. Some of them don't carry multicolored table cloths for every event just white if they even have that. (not knocking them) And for under $4000 what do you want from the venue? Cake, Open Bar, Bartender, linens. Three course meal or open buffet? In Central Jersey and northern you have a lot of options. But I can't see you traveling over and hour and half. Are you looking for indoor reception or would you prefer outdoor. Also since it is memorial weekend sometims the veterans hold their own events in the VFW.
