Budget tools

Halle, on November 2, 2019 at 2:28 PM Posted in Planning 0 17
I’m a young woman that wants to have everything squared away. I’m interested to know what budget tools does everyone use not just for their wedding but for their life? I recently decided to buy a checking account ledger because I’m tired of some of my charges charging me the day I buy a huge purchase for the wedding then randomly giving me the money back then taking it again it really throws me off . It causes me to spend money I don’t have . So I have to stop relying on my app because it is not going to tell me things like that 🤦🏽‍♀️. Do you guys do anything that helps you keep trAck of everything ?

I don't have anything that I use daily, but I'd like to know as well if any ladies out here have any suggestions. I try to make sure I keep my purchases apart if possible cause sometimes you forget that you made a purchase and it doesn't show up online yet...that's been my biggest fault.

QuickBooks or Excel. Not apps but still helpful. QuickBooks will pull your bank and credit card information over.

I keep a daily chart and do the math on Google Drive. Nothing super convenient but it’ll work til I can get myself on a more normal budget.

I use the free version of the EveryDollar app, but there’s an option to pay where it can connect to your bank accounts! I don’t mind putting in my expenses manually, feel like it holds me more accountable. My fiancée uses Mint and likes it a lot!

    A bit lengthy, but:

I actually use the notes in my phone to keep track, and I don’t really mind anyone here seeing my bills 🤷🏻‍♀️
Top portion is due date, bill, and amount.
Next bit is how I seperate it per paycheck (I’m biweekly)
red part is where i write current balances (minus any bills that may not have hit the account yet.) so whenever I get paid I subtract all current upcoming bills and write THAT as my balance, regarless of if it won’t come out right away. Then any time I make purchases I just subtract it there. This way I’m never fooled by balance in my banking apps, or forget a bill.

SO EASY and you can updated wherever/whenever and add and remove without worrying about apps being user friendly. I’ve tried actual apps and they don’t help in the way I like

I work at an investment brokerage firm assisting clients in saving for retirement. There are many tools out there but I find they all have flaws. Personally for my own budgeting needs and for our clients, I like using excel! I have my monthly cash flows and all our wedding stuff on there as well. It’s easy to update and very organizedSmiley smile

I keep everything in excel spreadsheets. But if I'm not near my spreadsheets i write it down in my notes on my phone and as soon as i get home i enter everything from the day and get my up to date numbers.

Check out Mint.com or Personal Capital! They're really good at tracking and setting budget. I use that mostly for life and not necessarily wedding because they track against fixed monthly budget. Of course you can change the monthly budget but if you're like me and sometimes spend a ton one month towards the wedding and don't spend on the next month, they're not really helpful. They're both super easy to use - you just need to link all of your accounts and they will automatically categorize your spending against your budget.

Excel girl!! I can access the spreadsheets I have from home or work and with the formulas and tools in the software, it makes budgeting a breeze! Just take a quick tutorial online to help familiarize yourself with it!

I use an app on iOS called BalanceCheck FREE. It's basically a digital checkbook ledger for the exact purpose you're describing. I budget every cent of my paycheck so it's important to know when I have pending payments that haven't shown up on my account yet so I don't overdraw. The free version of the app only allows you to create one budget ledger but I only use it for my checking account. You have to manually input all credits and debits but that's fine for me since I'm a control freak LOL. Hope this helps!
