Budget question - Fall/winter 2020 in the East coast

Patricia-Tracy, on August 28, 2019 at 2:20 AM Posted in New York Planning 1 6
Hi, I am looking for recommendations on budget for Fall/Winter in the East coast, preferably NY or CT area. We’re from NY. Also want a barn/vineyard type of venue for 150 people. How much should we budget focusing on good food and intimate wedding. Thoughts? Recommendations suggestions super welcome!

Hey Patricia-Tracy! Welcome to the WeddingWire community! It’s so great to have you here!

Wedding budgets vary hugely, depending on how much each couple can afford and are happy to spend. I would definitely recommend discussing your expected budget with your future spouse to determine how much you are both comfortable spending on your wedding. This is the best place to start with your wedding planning, as you will then be able to break down your budget into different wedding vendors and services.

You should definitely check out the WeddingWire Budget Tracker tool. You can input your personal budget and it will help you divide up your budget and keep track of your payments.

When starting your search for a venue, a great place to start is the venue directory. You can input a number of filters such as location, capacity, venue type and amenities available. I’ve started a couple of searches for you to check out here -

The tri-state area has some really amazing barn venues available but they come with a price tag lol For a barn wedding with typical DJ, photographer, open bar, flowers and all the usual for 150 people I would say at least a budget of $30,000. I only know cause that was what I wanted and after many hours of research I realized I just could not afford it. Most barn venues charge between $3,000 and $5,000 just to use the property. If you do look for barn wedding, weddingwire has some really great options on their barn venue search. Hope this helps, good luck.

I second Sinéad's advice. FH and I decided max we wanted to spend 15k and that included EVERYTHING (including our attire and rings and lodging). We figured this is what we can afford in the time frame we had to save up. we are 44 days out from our wedding now and we still owe maybe 2k and we went over budget a little to 17k BUT 3200 was gifted to us for our venue and another 600 was gifted to us for transportation. So in reality we did come under budget. This budget includes ALL of our vendors, our attire for us and our child, our rings, decorations and everything like that AND lodging for a week for us an our bridal party. We rented a 9 bedroom cabin for about $5,700.

    Details about our wedding:

We are doing a barn wedding which includes our venue, tables and chairs and lots of decorations. $3200

    My dress $1900

    Our rings $1000

DJ $700 - full ceremony and reception

Bar $510 - We bring all alcohol they provide cups, napkins, ice and all mixers and bartenders

Catering $1450 - Tacos and Fajita Bars and a donut bar for dessert

Photography $1200 - all day coverage

Transportation - $625 - mini bus running trips from lodging cabins to venue and back all night

Lodging - $5700 - this is for a week and a 9 bedroom cabin plus all taxes and cleaning fees.

Flowers- $300 - I opted to do all my own flowers and did Sola wood flowers so I bought them all on sale and all additional materials like stems, and floral tape and everything else were cheap from Walmart.

I have a lot of other misc expenses as well.

I think its important realistically finding what you can afford to pull from each check or each month and then start there and build your wedding from that point. We opted for easier options like homemade flowers and centerpieces and less traditional food and bar services so we could spend more on our cabin and on my dress and things like that.

We have "fall-en" for the idea of a barn wedding in western MA for a "moooooo-ving" ceremony. Ok ok enough of that manure! (I couldn't resist! lol)

Alas, It's a pricey undertaking and many of the barn venues book up QUICK! (We had to book ours almost two years in advance). Think $30k (maybe less if you're not crazy like we are and avoid an open bar)

Our venue is QuonQuont Farm in Whately MA. It's $$$ but their attention to detail A-MAZ-ING! They have two coordinators that come with the booking that are constantly working with you to help identify your other vendors and align your team leading up to and including your day.

If you end up out this way, feel free to hit me up regarding our other vendors. I am really in love with the team that we compiled to help us on our day.

Fiancé and I budgeted for 30k for just venue and we are getting married in Brooklyn in November with about 130 people. When all is said and done we are at about 45k right now.. keep in mind this is for a Saturday night wedding. Weddings on Sunday’s and fridays or day weddings can be done a lot cheaper if you’re willing to go that route!
