Budget for groom's attire

sandpiper, on January 24, 2016 at 10:58 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

How much did you spend on groom's attire, or how much are you planning to spend? FH is still trying to figure out what he wants to wear and the wedding is less than two months away... yikes. Trying to figure out what is reasonable since I own a bunch of suits for my job but I don't know a lot about menswear.

We spent $140. Rented a tux, same as groomsmen just a different vest color

My FH is getting his tux rental for free thanks to a wedding special at the tuxedo shop. Plus we got an extra free tux rental, which his dad will be getting.

FH spent $600 on his tux and got a $600 suit for free. If you end up buying, be aware that men need a lot of accessories to complete the look. Shirt, tie, tuxedo buttons and cuff links if you go that route, shoes, belt...so many things!

We just picked out our suits yesterday at Men's Warehouse. $178 for rental (suit with vest, shirt, tie, cuff links, pocket square, & shoes).

Edit: Our vests aren't colored- they match the suit color. FH's suit rental is also free.

He's getting his rental for free because we rented enough tuxes at Men's Warehouse to get his free.

Just like wedding dresses, there are a range of options for grooms. I personally think that a cheap rental tux for the groom on his wedding day is a shame. They usually don't look great as they aren't altered properly through the body for a perfect fit. They can hem the arms and legs only. So in many cases they end up looking baggy and sloppy. The fabric is often poor quality as well and looks cheap. The bride usually buys a gown for $1k or more; why does the groom often get short changed on his attire?

Buying a suit or tux and then having it fully tailored will cost $500-$1500 and that will look far better.

My husband had a bespoke suit made in high quality fabric for $3k.

We are budgeting around 2-300. Fh says he can get a really high quality used on- so whatever- he can wear what he wants. I want him to be happy- and comfortable.

Based on the typical percentages that the budget tracking tool starts you with, for our $10k budget FH only gets $60 for his attire! Every time we come under budget on something else I move the extra to that category. We've looked through pictures together and can't figure out what he should wear, but I think we'll end up getting a Groupon for a bespoke suit. Those can be ~$300 for a custom suit + 2 shirts and he's had good luck in the past with them.

Thanks all! Love the idea of doing a Groupon for a bespoke suit... he'd really like to have something special that fits really nicely (and a rental will be pretty expensive because it's a DW so we'd need it for over a week). I might check that out.

We're using a local tux shop and FI gets his free! But I think the others are right around $200.

FP rented a tux from Men's Warehouse for $200, it's grey while the people in our parties wearing tuxes are paying $114 for theirs which are black and the cheapest ones that the Men's Warehouse in my area rents out.

FH ordered a couple of suits to try. One from Asos that he found for $59 & one from jcrew that was $500. We got the Asos one yesterday and it's surprisingly nice for the price. His groomsmen are renting gray 3 piece suits from TheBlackTux, including a shirt and shoes for $170.

Woah I've never seen ASOS before... mission "make FH wear a green suit" commences immediately.

We got a suit for 150 at an outlet. Orginally is was supposed to be over 400. So we're probably looking at 220 with shirt tie and alterations.

Ian had a suit custom made. So far he's around $1500 including shoes, shirt, and tie.
