Brunch/daytime wedding entertainment

LMM1117, on March 7, 2018 at 1:29 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10

Hey y'all,

We are having a noon wedding in a small chapel with brunch to follow (biscuits and gravy, chicken and waffles, bacon, country potatoes, donuts, ham and cheese quiche, muffins, fruit, mimosas, mint julep sweet tea). The whole thing will be at the same venue. We aren't doing a DJ or dancing. We really only have our venue for a two hour-ish reception. Basically I want the focus to be on eating and spending time talking/visiting with everyone (about 50-60 guests). Afterward, we plan on having an "after party" at our house watching football, yard games, and a fire pit with smores. We'll also get a keg and make sangria.

So my question is will that be enough? I worry the two hours will be boring but I'm hoping it'll be like going out to brunch with my friends. We are hiring a sole guitarist for the ceremony and I planned on making a Spotify playlist for the reception. However, now I'm wondering if I should hire the guitarist for the whole thing at the chapel? His style is very "coffee shop and small bars" but I just don't know. I also thought about having some games available at the reception but haven't decided yet.

I can’t say I e ever been to this kind of reception, but if it’s just 2 hours, I think that’s enough. Maybe have a sign the guest book station or “marital advice” cards or something if people get fidgety.

I wouldn’t get into entertainment. That’s just enough time allotted to eat and socialize

Background music during brunch would be lovely. If you can afford the guitarist for that time, do it. Live music always adds a nice touch, even just in the background. I don't think you have time for nor need games at the reception. People will need time to get through the buffet, eat and mingle.

Background music will be a great addition. Our reception will be like yours: lunch served around 12:15, 12:30, over by 3pm. We are having a pro musician play guitar in the background. You will want time to not just eat but visit with guests. Don't overthink it!!! Don't overplan it.

I wouldn't worry about any other entertainment.

I think two hours is great! I know it isn't the same, but we had a 4 hour graduation party and people came and left as they pleased, but a lot of people stayed for the full 4 hours just talking! We had music playing, and had corn hole and beer pong, but mostly everyone loved talking to each other! So I don't think people will be bored at all. I think music on an iPod would be fine too, if you didn't want the guitarist the whole time. We just played a country music station.

I think I would be happy with either the background music or the guitarist. And I think two hours sounds perfect for the number of guests and the style of event you are having.

I mean, seriously- your menu!?! I want an invite to your wedding! Chicken, waffles and a mimosa... or three! Honestly, I'm in love with this. I want to show up in a huge Kentucky Derby style hat and eat and drink my way through a lovely brunch. :-)

I think the background music on spotify would be fine - no need to hire the guitarist. I think having a table set up with board games & cards would be nice. That way if guests do get bored they have something available, and the guests that are fine eating and socializing do not feel pressured to do something they do not want to.

This sounds perfect as is, I wouldn't overthink it. Also, your menu sounds to die for...can I come? Smiley winking

Background music or the guitarist will work well, it will just depend on your budget as to what makes more sense. Most people will eat and socialize during this time and won't need much else to entertain them.

That sounds very nice. I think 2 hours is a good amount of time. If it were longer people might get antsy without dancing or something to do, but I think in 2 hours you will just get everyone fed, but not in a rushed feeling way

Happy Hedgie and Jennifer M-- Thank you! I spent an embarrassing amount of time deciding on the menu. haha. That is the most important part to me. People won't necessarily remember various details but they sure do remember if the food was good or not! haha. My momma wasn't on board with it at first (she envisioned an evening wedding--she did not win. haha) but once she saw the food choices she changed her mind. Smiley smile One of my brothers threatened not to come if I changed the menu so it's set in stone. haha. You're welcome to stop by!

NVV2B-- That's what I was thinking! My fiance and I are obsessed with Uno so I was thinking of putting that out along with Jenga. We'll have cornhole and a flip cup tournament at home. Smiley smile

Thank you, ladies! I appreciate your responses. I think we're going to just do a Spotify playlist so we'll have more money to play with on something else. We aren't super traditional and so that's why we're skipping a lot of the normal wedding stuff. Plus we just want to spend the day together. Smiley smile
