I would be! I think if you provide some liquid courage, many guest would be willingly to get down on the dance floor lol.

IMO, time doesn't matter. Atmosphere and company is what matters.

I am having a brunch wedding, too! And this is a concern I brought up to my DJ! I definitely want people to dance and he said he didn't think it would be a problem. I think if you and your fiance are out there on the dance floor other people will join in too!

Our wedding was a lunch wedding (12:30 to 6pm). People most definetly danced and I've been to other afternoon weddings where people have danced. We had tons of food, full open bar and an amazing DJ.

I agree that it's honestly about the atmosphere you create. If you treat it like any other party, then people will dance.

I personally wouldn't. But I would definitely expect other people to do so; I'm just not much of a dancer and only feel comfortable doing it 'in the dark', so to speak. And I love brunch - I'd still have a great time.

We had a brunch wedding. Our reception was from 12-4 pm, and people danced like crazy. We provided lots of alcohol, of course, which definitely encourages dancing lol. We also had a great DJ and really energetic MC who got everyone on the dance floor. The lighting was also dimmed so that you almost forgot that it was daytime. As previous posters have said, it's all about the atmosphere.

I am having a brunch wedding also 12-4pm. I am concerned that is a short time frame... Did you feel like that was enough time?

If there's mimosas, the people will dance. I sure as hell would.

I was just at a brunch wedding and people had to be forced on the dancefloor by the bride, and sat as soon as possible. There were a couple factors that contributed to that. First, it was a three hour total reception (1 hour cocktail hour, 2 hour meal). I don't think anyone had eaten, so everyone didn't start slamming drinks at the cocktail hour. There were passed apps but they were scarce. Second, everyone knew they had to drive pretty soon, so they were pretty careful about the booze. Third, everyone was drinking mimosas and bloody Mary's and the pour was really light. Fourth, the lights in the room were up full blast. Five, the DJ kind of sucked. Extremely loud as soon as he started, and as soon as a few folks would start to dance he would buzzkill the whole thing with some stupid "make a circle and every.single.guest. has to dance on their own in the middle." After two rounds of stuff like that, everyone just sat.

So, my takeaways were to keep in mind the length of the reception because folks have to drive, get them a bunch of good food asap so they are willing to drink, get your bartender to pour a reasonable drink, turn the lights down, and let the party ramp up naturally and without interference.

This particular wedding would have been much better with an iPod and decent speakers.

And if your guests aren't dancing, figure out why and fix that, don't just nag them to get on the floor.

I'm not having a brunch reception but having a short cocktail party (2 hours). I'm not having a DJ - just my iPod/speakers in the background.
