Brunch Wedding Alcohol Planning

Vivian, on July 27, 2015 at 7:27 PM Posted in Planning 0 3

We're having a Sunday brunch wedding with afternoon tea, and the entire event will be from 11am-6pm. Bar will open from 11:45am-5:45pm. We will be having ~175 guests, probably ~160 of which will have a drink (or more, knowing my friends and his family). I'm trying to plan how much beer, wine, champagne, and vodka to buy. The drink list will be: 3 types of beer (we're craft brew fanatics), one white wine, one red wine, mimosas, Bellinis, just straight champagne, bloody mary's, screwdrivers, and any other vodka juice drink people want.

I was thinking of doing the following calculation: 2 drinks/first hour then 1 drink/hour after, for a total of 1120 drinks needed. I was thinking of dividing the number of drinks by 4 for the 4 types of alcohol I'll be buying. Does that make sense, or do I need to skew one type more heavily (perhaps more champagne than wine etc.)? Is that way too much alcohol for a daytime Sunday wedding?

I think the one drink per hour sounds good. As for how much each it depends on your crowd and what they drink. I think people will drink less for a brunch wedding but it's better to have to much rather than not enough. Just check to see if the store will let you return the unopened packages.

People will drink less for a Sunday brunch wedding. I also think you should take into account the type of drinkers you have... mostly wine? beer? bellinis? mixed drinks? I would skew heavier towards the breakfast type drinks (mimosas, bellinis, bloody mary's, white wine, etc) than the beer or red wine.

I think people will definitely drink less since it is a Sunday. People also might not stay for all six hours, that is a long time to be day drinking, especially if they have to go to work the next day. I would maybe calculate less drinks in the last couple of hours of the event. I agree that it will probably be more fruity drinks than beer at that time of the day. Some places allow you to return unopened alcohol so you could look into that if you are worried about having a ton left over.
