Brother's girlfriend of a year?

Stephanie, on February 18, 2020 at 8:14 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12
So my brother has been dating this really awesome girl for a year. I don't want to make her a bridesmaid because I don't know if they're going to make it. I don't want to include her in the pictures because if they do somehow break up that would be very awkward to look at. I want to include her in the wedding somehow, not in the wedding party per say, but something where she can be apart of everything. She has been very helpful with sharing ideas and plans. Any ideas on how to include her?

I would just invite her to the wedding and pre wedding events and she does not need to be in official pictures rather some pics at the reception. Thoughts? You could even give her a thank you gift for her help.

Not too sure. However, I messed up and didn't ask my sister in law to be a bridesmaid, I had my reasons, I do regret it now though. I've invited her to be part of my bachelorette party and I've thought about having her walk my dog down the aisle before I walk down. Because my dog is like my child but she's too wild to not be on a leash. It would incorporate both of them into the wedding. If you don't have anything like that to do, maybe just have her as a guest so she can enjoy every moment with you.

I was very close to my ex-bf’s sister. She got married while we were dating. She included me in her bachelorette party, the rehearsal dinner, getting ready with the wedding party, etc. I was not in any family photos (probably a good thing now) but I didn’t feel left out bc she had included me in those other things. I think if you do the same she won’t feel left out! I think it’s really nice if you to think of her feelings!

    I hope this helps!

She can be a guest. If she were your sister in law it would be different. Girlfriend doesn’t get the same treatment, sorry.

I would include her in some of the pictures but not all. If they split up it would be weird to have her in your photos but what if they end up getting married? Then it would be nice to have her in them. I say do most with just family but include her in 1 or 2. You can also invite her to pre wedding events without making her a bridesmaid.

Since nothing is official yet , she can remain a guest . She’s very sweet for helping you though. I do agree with most , as she is your brothers gf. So she should be in some pics but not all. She’s not officially family

Could she do a reading during the ceremony? Or make her an 'attendant' someone to direct people and be your right hand the day of

You could have her be an usher at the wedding (help people find their seats)

She can come as a guest. If you are unsure of them making it , maybe don't have her do anything but enjoy her time at the wedding. If you really want her involved maybe she can help with handing out programs?

I get where you're coming from, but what if married people in your wedding and pictures get a divorce? Then they're in the pictures, and it would be awkward to look at. You have no idea what the future holds for anyone, so just go with the people you want to be in the BP now. Even if they're not in your lives forever, you'll still have fond memories to look back on!

We did two sets of family photos--one with my sister's boyfriend, and one without him, just in case! We like him a lot but since we don't know for sure what will happen, we have both versions now.
