Brother stepping in for the Father Daughter Dance

Kansas, on April 5, 2019 at 11:36 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 15

My father passed away suddenly in 2015 and I was thinking I would have my brother step in to do the Father Daughter dance. I want to dance to "You Should Be Here" by Cole Swindell. It is a song that reminds me of my dad so much, for obvious reasons. I know it will be very emotional, but I think it would be good to kind of "get it out" at some point and recognize that my dad isn't there on the most important day of my life so far. I want to honor him more than just a section for lost loved ones. I guess I was just looking for some validation as to the song, any input is appreciated.

Thank you! I don't see my brother stepping in and having a up-beat song. I don't know why, it just wouldn't feel right I guess.

I think the song choice is great. Are you planning on doing a quick "As many of you know, Sally's father passed in 2015. Since they were very close, she still wishes to honor him on this big day. So, John, this dance is for you."

My bestfriend got married a few years ago, and her parents where killed in the mudslide in Northern Washington before she got married. Her older brother stepped in for the father daughter dance and the danced to this song. It had everyone in tears, but it was perfect.

I think this is a beautiful choice of song, and that it will be extremely special.

My brother danced with me (to the song from which my dad got my nickname for me), since we lost my dad in 2011. It was a very emotional thing. Don't be surprised if you tear up during the song.

You'll probably be very emotional all day that day - know that he is with you, even if it's not in the form you prefer.

Thank you for your kind words. I am sure I will need a serious make-up touch up after the dance.

That’s such a wonderful idea. My dad passed away in 2014 so I know what you’re feeling and I think it’s incredibly brave to dance to a song that you *know* will make you emotional. My big brother will be walking me down the aisle but I still haven’t decided if I want to totally skip the dance with no mention of it or dance with my brother to our dads favorite song. Not sure if I’m comfortable ugly crying in front of everyone and if I would be able to ‘bounce back’ into party mode right after. The song is beautiful though and it’s special to you which is what matters!

I'm so sorry for your loss. I also lost my dad not too long ago, and so my brother is going to walk me down the aisle. I asked my ffil to do the father daughter dance with me, but I still am going to drag both of my brothers in for a memorial dance.
