Brother of the Groom's Girlfriend

Amanda, on April 10, 2017 at 9:37 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Hi! The brother of the groom (one of the groomsmen, 18 years old) has been dating a girl for a little more than a year. She will be invited (obviously). She doesn't know anyone so i'm not sure where to sit her/does she come to the rehearsal dinner and pictures? Wasn't sure what the proper etiquette for this would be. Thanks!

She sits with her date, the brother of the groom. You shouldn't split up couples.

No problem! As to the rehersal dinner- if the groom's brother is attending, it would be appropriate to include her as well, especially if they are travelling or the brother is in the wedding party.

She would attend the rehearsal dinner as brother of the groom's plus one. Is the brother a BM? Are there other bridal party members with plus ones who are not in the wedding party? If so, seat them together. My brother is a GM and FH's sister is a BM. Each have a SO coming as their plus one so they will be seated together.

I agree with PPs. She should sit with her date (significant others aren't plus ones) and attend rehearsal dinner. During pictures, I would just let her attend cocktail hour.

Whitney, are you planning on splitting couples up during your reception? Your bridal party should sit with their dates.

Hi Amanda! She should absolutely be invited to the rehearsal dinner, and sit with your FBIL at the rehearsal dinner and at the reception. I'd have FBIL introduce her to a few people or have her sit with his family during the ceremony. But she does not need to be in any wedding party or family pictures!

Never separate anyone from their spouse/date.
