Brooch Bridal Shower???

Blair, on January 31, 2012 at 9:16 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

I need very little in the way of "traditional" bridal/wedding gifts. We actually did the honeymoon registry in lieu of a bed bath and beyond thing. The problem is my "bridal" shower~I know my moh wants to throw me one, and im not opposed to the idea :-) Originally, we had talked about a lingerie shower but Ive gained some weight recently and 1) dont want plus size lingerie that will (hopefully) be too big in a year and 2)there arent a lot of options out there for reasonbly priced plus sized lingerie.

So my question: I have decided that I would like to make a brooch bouquet for my bridal bouquet and these things can get PRICEY. So i was wondering if anyone would think it tacky to have my moh throw me a brooch party instead of a traditional shower full of things I dont really need. Im more into meaningful gifts than materialistic and I think making my bouquet from brooches collected from friends and family would be awesome. Am I on the right track or completely off base?

I am doing a brooch bouquet but am collecting them myself. The only thing with doing it as a shower is to have it early enough because it is quite a lot of work, wiring them and putting it together. however I have four to make because I am making the bridesmaids as well, so maybe if you only have one to make it won't be so bad but I think it is a great idea!

    The day, the dress

    the bride, the groom

    the joy, the tears

    will all come soon.

    You can be a part

    of Blair's special day,

    Please bring a brooch

    to go in her bouquet.

I think it can work out very nice. People have stock the kitchen showers, pamper the bride showers. Nothing wrong with a brooch shower.

My FMIL suggested this to me as well. So I am having MOH add a little note to the invite that says something along the lines of - The Bride is collecting silver brooches with pearl and/or rhinestones and if you would like to add one to her collection, please bring it to the bridal shower. Brooches can come from anywhere, goodwill, your own collection, yard sale, ebay ect.

We are also doing a honeymoon registry, and my MOH has made the theme of the bridal shower go along with the places we will go on our honeymoon. So she thinks people will be encouraged to choose things from our honeymoon registry.

Im asking everybody who will be coming to my shower to bring a brooch or piece of jewelry to go into my bouquet. I agree with what others said about it adding to the sentimental value. Smiley smile I think its a great and unique idea!

Sounds like a great idea to me. Hopefully I will recommend this idea to my future clients looking for different ideas for their wedding.
