Broken hair :(

Jeannie, on March 17, 2015 at 12:02 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

I'm going to start off with, I am a hairstylist, so maybe that'll tell you that yes, I do a lot with my hair.

Before/right after I got engaged, my hair was platinum blonde. I felt like it was pretty healthy, (or as healthy as it gets for being platinum & really fine) I used all professional products and always got my hair done professionally.

So after I got engaged, I wanted my hair to grow out more for the wedding. I thought to lay off the bleach and go for my more natural color, which is like a dark blonde/light brown.

I put demi-permanent color on my hair (the kind that fades out over time so you don't have a nasty root line also not as damaging) and it looked great. This was in October. I didn't touch it until two weeks ago, I did demi again. Ever since my hair is breaking off all over the place. It's not as dry but I feel like I'm finding short pieces all over the place everyday. I have a bit until my wedding, but any advice to prevent breakage? Anyone else been there?

My hair used to break off a ton, but I started using a different shampoo and it's been pretty good since, I just use the Herbal Essences lines of shampoo, my favorite is Tealightfully Clean

ETA: I condition as well, which I would suggest if you don't normally.

Definitely protein packs/masques and shampoos/conditioners without any parabens or sulfates. I had a hairdresser completely overprocess my (already fine, blond) hair and it was breaking off and falling like crazy... the only things that helped were those above and any product that says "nourishing" or "moisturizing" to strengthen the hair. And time.

I really love the "it's a 10" line. I know it's expensive but my hair has never felt healthier! Even just using the leave in conditioner is great! I straighten my hair all the time and have naturally curly dry frizzy hair and it helps a ton! My hair stylist always comments on how heathy my hair is! Smiley smile

I take biotin to grow my hair and keep it strong. Maybe give that a try?

I've heard coconut oil is good for your hair. I've never tried it, but, always tell myself I have to lol I do egg yolks every now and then. Specifically, I steam my face, wash it, then use egg whites on my face. It helps reduce the size of your pores. I put the yolks in my hair. Both work well

I have very fine hair and hair that breaks very easily. I got a new curling iron a few years back and decided to use the high setting. I wanted a lot of curl for little time. In a few months my hair started breaking off. I was finding hundreds of little pieces on my shoulders AND, i noticed my hair getting shorter!

I went to my stylist and she thought my hair was very healthy and couldn't see any issues.

I finally excepted reality, which was there is nothing i could do to stop the breakage, but stop using high heat on my hair and hope to minimize it. It took 2 years before i started to see my hair get longer.

I suspect if it's damaged to the point where it's breaking off, you'll likely have to let it run it course till the damage hair is gone.

I would recommend finding something to help your hair grow faster. I've heard of people who take prenatal vitamins to help hair grow. I've never tried it but i've heard of it. I saw a commercial for womens rogaine to help thicken and grow hair.
