Bridezilla or chillzilla?

Tracy, on February 16, 2019 at 10:10 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5
Hey everyone!

I'm getting married this fall and just recently had my BMs try on/pick out their dresses. My MOH is plus sized and the line I want my girls in will make her size, but it will cost a little to do so(same with my taller BM) My first question is, should I or should I not cover the expense of the extra material for my MOH and for my tall BM?
Secondly, has anyone had a "controlling" MOH? What I mean by that is, my MOH seemingly has a favorite mass produced dress store. When that dress store did not have the color I wanted my girls in, she suggested I change my colors so that they could get their dresses from there. When we went dress shopping last night, the dress store was all she could talk about and she kept complaining the dress was going to be a lot of money( let me be clear, the designer I would like my girls in has close to 300 different styles to choose from. Starting at $180 and going up to as high as $280). I'm trying to be sensitive to the financial situation for each of my girls, but should I still empathize with my MOH when she knowingly chose to the higher priced dress???

You should have asked your girls budgets before selecting a designer, a store, or a dress. You are not responsible for extra material because of their body composition, but the dress with the added material should still be within their provided budget. $180 is still a fairly high starting price.

Every store I had contacted said average price of a bridesmaid dress is $200-220. I ran it by my girls to get their opinion beforehand. Hence why I chose a designer with a wider range of prices, styles etc so my girls could chose within their budget.

If you're open to continuing to look at options, Azazie offers a wide-range of dresses in prices ranging from $100 on up (I don't think I've ever seen anything over $200). They charge the same for a dress regardless of the size or length, and do custom, made-to-measure, sizes for the same price as standard, which potentially save a lot on alterations. They have a huge range of dress styles/options/colors/fabrics. The quality is very good, and their customer service is great. Daughter had 5 BMs across the country, ranging from 5'-6'+, size 6 to size 18, and they all looked beautiful in their long dresses that cost ~ $120. There are TONS of positive reviews/experiences discussed in posts on this forum. Good luck!

It's so funny you mention them because I was originally looking at going through them LOL however I had some girls hesitant to order online because they wanted to try on their dress before purchasing, which I completely understand.

Azazie offers at home try-ons for $10 each. Especially if you already have an idea of the style you want, it will be relatively easy to narrow it down and just order a couple to try on. I was super hesitant when daughter first considered trying Azazie, but when the try-on dresses arrived, I was completely sold. The girls all looked beautiful, and, honestly, their sizes & shapes could not really be much more different. (We also looked at David's, and there is absolutely NO comparison on quality. The Azazie dresses are very well-made with much higher quality fabrics than David's, in my opinion. And, for a LOT less money.)
