Bridesman gifts?

DesertPolarBear, on June 2, 2017 at 1:07 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

I have a bridesman in my party and I am wondering if any brides have gift ideas? The girls I am getting their hair professionally done, I plan to get them jewelry and a nice hair piece, a getting ready robe, and hopefully something small and personal. It seems unfair if I just get the bridesman a much bigger personal gift, but also a lot of this stuff just doesn't apply to him. Thoughts?

The only actual gift you have mentioned for your bridesmaids is the "something small and personal." The rest of the items are props for your wedding. Shop for each member of your wedding party like it was their birthday.

Shop like it is his bday. What does he like? If he is into games and that sort of stuff get him a geekfuel subcription box. If he likes sports get him something to do with his fav team

And i agree with pp. It sounds like most your gifts for the girls are props and not gifts outside of the wedding.

Sounds like props for the girls but that's not what your asking...

what are y'all doing for the GM? Maybe a yeti with a subscription box? Something with his favorite sports team? And then since your getting the girls jewelry maybe get him a tie clip or something (although this is a prop too...)

I definitely see the point on the hair/robes however I will agree to disagree on whether jewelry constitutes a gift. It won't be particularly themed or anything like that and my bridesmaids are all people who wear this type of jewelry. In any case it sounds like just direct those equivalent dollars toward a slightly larger personal gift for bridesman.

How about a couple of months of the guy version of Birchbox? It's 20 bucks a month, and my partner loved it!

I love the cocktail of the month idea (both of these kinda do the 'gift that keeps on giving....")

I'd go look at Common Goods.com. They have fun, quirky stuff and I always find great gifts there (make your own hot sauce anyone?) in all kinds of price ranges.

All of your gifts except the personal gift are props. My friend literally just gave me jewelry as a BM "present" and all of us thought it was a low blow. A true gift would have nothing to do with your wedding.

Agree. Shop like it's his birthday. That doesn't mean you couldn't ALSO get him like, an engraved flask with something about "thanks for standing up with you", but definitely make it about him. Smiley smile

Jewelry really only counts as a gift if it's different pieces designed to appeal to each individual girls. Generic matching wedding jewelry is really just a prop. I never re-wear BM jewelry because I collect Elsa Peretti charms/pendants and I'm really attached to my collection. If I'm wearing jewelry it's something from that. My best friend is into the chunks of rock/feathers style of jewelry, so she has several strands of pearls and delicate silver pieces from bridal parties that are just sitting in drawers.

Just something to keep in mind. Make sure it's jewelry each girl will love, not just a matching set that's generic enough no one will hate it.

For the man - shop like it's his birthday. What does he like best? Get him some of that.

I would just tell them you spent the same about of money on all of them (and actually do that) and get him what you think is best. The girls should understand

All! This thread was so helpful to me. I was agonizing over what to get my bridesmaids and bridesman for their gifts and I'm not sure why I had tunnel vision thinking it only had to do with the wedding. I picked out gifts for all of them individually yesterday and I am just SO happy now! Thank you for the reminder to shop for your friend like it's their birthday!

    Hey friend,

Some ideas: cuff links, custom flask, masculine toiletry bag, sunglasses, slippers (masculine, of course)

The best bridesmaid/groomsman etc gifts are not wedding day related props for your pictures. Shop like it’s their birthday and get something related to their personal interests and hobbies.
