Bridesmaids

Some people buy it for them and some let their bridesmaids buy it. I let mine choose their own so they bought theirs.

I'd consult their budgets first, then pick a dress within budget. If you can afford it though, that's great!

Generally bridesmaids pay for their dresses, but if you want a specific dress it could be out of their budgets. I'm going to tell my girls what color and length and where to buy them from, but let them choose the dress that either fits their budget best or whichever they like best for their body types. I'll probably be helping my matron of honor with the cost of hers since her husband and both of her daughters are in the wedding and that's four outfits I'm asking of one family.

Typically you should ask their individual budgets and choose a dress within that price range for
them to purchase. If it’s within your budget, I’m sure they would appreciate if you purchased them.

Long before we talk about what dress, we all discussed a cohesive budget and what/if anything, they could afford. They all said the same thing, so they bought their dresses.

Since I chose a specific dress I told my girls to pay what the felt comfortable with and I took care of the rest

My bridesmaids will be purchasing their own dresses. before they chose the dress we discussed budgets and made sure to stay on or under budget. if we found a dress they all loved that was over their budget i would have agreed to pay for the difference. if you have the money and want to purchase their dresses as a gift i'm sure they would appreciate it. i will be paying for my maids' makeup for my wedding as part of their gift (also getting them matching personalized robes for the day of wedding)

I bought dresses for my BM's. It's definitely typical that they buy their own but I think that's really crappy and I didn't want them to have to shell out money to fit into my wedding vision.

It depends on what country you're in. In the UK, the couple buys the bridesmaids' dresses. In the US, typically the bridesmaids buy their own, although the couple can volunteer to help out.
