Bridesmaids’ Robes

Tiffany, on May 3, 2019 at 5:26 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16
Hey ladies! I’m looking for a great gift idea for my bridesmaids. One of the items will be a robe that they can wear that morning. Any suggestions for some good quality robes that aren’t the cheap DB kind?

Robes to get ready in are not considered gifts for your bridesmaids but instead are viewed as props for your wedding. The BMs rarely wear these again and most of them are usually uncomfortable since they don't cover very well. If the girls are busty these are super uncomfortable. You can still buy them if you want (I bought my girls VS PJs for getting ready in), but get them something else that is a true "thank you" gift that they will cherish and use it again after your wedding. It doesn't need to be big or expensive but thoughtful keeping each girl's interest in mind. Gift cards, bottles of wine, quality jewelry that is not required to be worn for the wedding, etc.

I bought my girls beautiful robes on etsy. Look at nicolesartshoppe. She is a good friend of mine and does AMAZING work. Contact her and she can basically do anything

I disagree. A very good quality, monogrammed robe is a lovely gift and is something that most ladies will use again and again. It doesn’t matter if they use it on the day of the wedding. A gift is a gift.

Robes can be part of their gift. For my wedding party gifts i plan on giving my girls their robes and matching earrings, necklaces and bracelets at the rehearsal dinner in which i want them to wear day of wedding. Not anything crazy expensive, something silver will prob go to pagoda or Claire’s

I agree!! The robe IS a gift and not a “wedding prop” 🤔 (??? 🤷🏽‍♀️).

Yes, a higher quality robe (as you suggested) in the proper size will fit your BM’s just fine. I’d definitely wear it again around the house, as I currently do while getting ready, doing hair/makeup or just walking around the house.

I’d be seriously offended if the only “gifts” I got were those mandated by the bride to be used on the wedding day. If that’s *part* of the gift, sure, but earrings/robe/hair & makeup are not actually gifts for the girls.

A gift should be something with no strings attached. That is why anything the bride requires the girls to wear for her wedding is not considered a gift.

If you do robes, have them either plain, floral, or have their names on them. They’ll never wear the robe again if it says MOH or BM on it. Save those titles for shirts to wear for “popping the question to them”, dress shopping, bachelorette party, nails done, etc. But in regards where to buy them I have no idea. Maybe try amazon?

I got a robe once and because it was in my fav color and nothing was written on it, I do wear it while getting ready for special occasions.

Surprised by the disagreement here—I only meant to find a great place to buy good quality robes especially because I was hoping they might wear them more than once. Notice I said the bridesmaids “can” wear them that morning. I just wanted to give them a variety of items to thank them. If they want to wear the robes—they will have them and be nice enough to wear them again.

I also think this is a "know your crowd" sort of thing. I love robes (not satin, but cotton of microfiber) so I'll wear them all the time. I know that is true for my MOH & one of my bridesmaids. I have a few girls that are bustier, so I gave them the option between a cotton waffle print robe (past knee length), long PJ shirt (then they wear whatever they want underneath), or a romper. I have gotten nicer robes and considered them gifts even if they looked nice in pictures.

I totally agree with you! I've been on the other end where a bride gave us jewelry we had to wear and that was that. I wore that jewelry 0 other times. Much like the BM dress.

OP, I gave my girls robes the day of from the fancy pigeon on etsy. I also gave them a gift the night before at the rehearsal dinner and told them about the robes. I felt these weren't see-through and were actually pretty nice. They fit everyone from short to tall appropriately.

I decided to skip the robes and just get my girls some luxury items that they will use again. I got them each a purse, luggage tag that doubles as a cell phone charger, and ballet flats in case their feet hurt on the dance floor. If we do any “get ready photos” I will let the girls wear what they want.

I got my best lady a plain gray robe which was so comfortanle and she wears often. I bought it online and there was a crazy Lord and Taylor sale so it was $17. In addition I paid for our night at the hotel before the wedding, her massage, and a jewelery travel case.
If you're going for a robe opt for a longer (below knee length), don't get it embroidered, and get something comfy!
