Bridesmaids dresses

Shelly, on November 13, 2019 at 6:43 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10
My wedding is 05/08/20 and I really need to start looking at BM dresses ! I know it’s appropriate to ask your BMs their budgets for dresses privately. I just am not sure how to ask.... I’m a little nervous because one of them is kind of cheap (whenever we go out to eat she always has something to complain about regarding money) and another just recently lost her job unfortunately. So I feel awkward asking. I am paying for hair and makeup but I just can’t afford the dresses too or I would pay for everyone myself. Any advice?

I think just asking people for a max budget for a bridesmaid dress is appropriate. I think wording it in a matter of fact way is easiest.

Definitely ask privately like you said, sending out an informal text message to each girl works best I think.

"Hey, for planning purposes we need to start looking at bridesmaids dresses and I want to be respectful of people's budgets. Can you let me know the max budget you would consider for a bridesmaids dress?"

Also definitely look at Azazie online, they’re much more inexpensive than any bridal salon will be. At least from my experience so far. If you pick the color you can tell the girls to order whatever style they like that works with their budget. Or pick some options out for then with varying prices.

I am actually not having a bridal party, but when I thought I was I had planned on picking a color and style (strapless, long, short, etc.) and giving the BMs the freedom to find dresses

Depending on the color and budget. There's website like birdygrey (under $100) or go to Macy or Dillards for sale (sometimes $60), or Lulu's.

I agree! Lulu's would be a great place to look for BM dresses at a good price

    I like Hannah's wording a lot.

Or - if you want to be super chill, you could just tell them any dress that's long and black (or navy, or blush, or whatever). That way they can spend whatever they want, wear something they already have, find a clearance gown at a department store or get something off a resale site. I also second checking out department stores like Macy's or Dillards. I found gorgeous navy Calvin Klein dresses with gold accents for my girls for like $65.

David's Bridal was inexpensive and quick! All my girls got their dresses in less than a month and they offered to set up payment plans if needed!

    Amazon.

I found my bridesmaid dresses on Amazon for half the price of the ones at David's Bridal and Azazie. And it's the exact same dress! The quality and fit was great. And the best part with Amazon is returns are so easy nowadays.
