I don't think there is an average. Some people order $20 dresses off of Amazon and some do $250 David's Bridal dresses, it really depends on what your BP can afford.

As Caytlyn said, it's all over the place. I paid $130 for my daughter's MOH dress because that was what I was wanting to pay. At one wedding I was in we were all broke students and bought off the rack prom dresses on clearance for $35. It depends on the individuals' budgets.

I've seen bridesmaids dresses go from $99-$300. I'm letting my Bridesmaid and Maid of Honor pick their own dresses, they just have to be a specific color, so whatever they can afford is what they will spend. Just be sure to talk about their budget before you pick anything so you don't pick something they can't afford which puts everyone in an awkward position.

Agreed- just depends on where you get them and the designer. 2 of my girls got Sorella Vita ($250 each) and the other 2 went with Birdy Grey ($99 each).

+1 to what PPs have said--an "average" number probably won't do you much good as everyone's situations are vastly different.

Getting together a budget for bridesmaid dresses is really just a matter of reaching out to everyone (privately) and asking what they'd be willing to spend on a dress, then taking the lowest number of that group, and going from there.

My bridesmaids paid an average of $140 but had choices from $89 to $169. I've been in two weddings. The first I paid $60 and the second I paid $150.
