Bridesmaids Dresses

Emma, on October 16, 2019 at 11:00 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

I have 2 plus size bridesmaids and I'm struggling to find dresses. I don't know if I'm just too picky or what.

I'm looking for burgundy dresses (the redder burgundy), either floor or tea length, preferably with a slit in the side or some sort of sleeves (because I feel like that makes it look less formal), and there has to be straps of some sort (enough to hide bra straps).

I've looked at Azazie and David's Bridal. I found a couple on Azazie for them to try and I'm going to try revisiting David's Bridal, I just feel like a lot of the colors are hit or miss. And I don't want my bridesmaids to have to spend too much.

I've been thinking about possibly having them choose their own styles as long as its the same color but since there are only 2 of them I don't want it to look too disjointed.

Any thoughts, suggestions, ideas, or pictures would help!

I'd just give them the color requirement and let them pick. As a plus size lady myself, its awkward and uncomfortable being told to wear xyz if its not something that fits your body type.

The reason that there are so many "requirements" for the dress is that those are the things that work for both of them. I'm thinking I may just have to give them the color and let them choose, I just want them to stand out and not look like 2 guests that showed up in the same color.

Hi Emma! I used Birdy Grey for my bridesmaids dresses, and one of my girls is pregnant and another is on the larger side, as well. Both girls fit into their dress perfectly! There are stylists that can help you find a good dress option, too, and they have a beautiful burgundy color.

Here's the link to their burgundy dresses: https://www.birdygrey.com/collections/all-bridesmaid-dresses?_=pf&pf_t_color=Burgundys

Hope that helps you! Smiley heart

I think if you were to say "x color from azazie" that would be good. They have all sorts of sizes and one great thing is that they only use one kind of fabric so it'll dye the same etc. Another thing you can do is give them a color AND a fabric from a bigger store (eg david's bridal) and they'll still look coordinated.

Oh! I do like the idea of giving them a color AND fabric. That's a great call!

I agree with PP that I would give them the color and length and just let them choose a dress that they feel comfortable in. If they're standing up with you, no one will mistake them for the average guest Smiley smile

I got mine from Amazon. I have 2 that's plus size and I have 2 that are going to be 7 and 8 months pregnant so I didn't care for class or look. I just needed them to be comfortable. I also as a bride will be 6 months pregnant so I mean nothing really was traditional about our wedding anyway

Did you make a showroom on Azazie? You can put your choices in the and let them choose dresses to add as well. That way you can see if the “go to whether.” Also, my sister selected some dresses from the mother of the bride section as she is in her 50s. Not an old lady but her dress would be more “modest” than if I had a 20 year old bridesmaid. So wherever you go, you can be open to other categories like mother of the bride or prom it’s quincenera depending on your style.

Try JJshouse. I lost about 90lbs 4yrs ago and was in a wedding on the earlier end of that weight loss. The bride used JJshouse and I was able to have the dress custom sized. It was awesome and I felt super comfortable in it. I also agree with PP that says to give them color/style and allow them to choose. My sister has a different body shape than the others and decided that would be the best option for us.

I love David’s bridal because they have several sizes in one dress/color. I wouldn’t want them to stand out either, if every other girl has the same dress and they don’t. I would try to find something that looks good on all bodies and go with that. Maybe trying to have everyone go together or at least two that are very different sizes go and try on with you should work.

I have a plus size bridesmaid and we went with Sorella Vita. Gorgeous gowns that they can wear again. Also Bill Levkoff has a lot of plus size gowns to choose from. Not sure where you're located but you can look those brands up to see where the closest location is that carries them.

My girls ordered their dresses from Azazie, they are all wearing the same length, fabric and color, but all different styles to suit their body types. All I asked was they kept the cleavage to a minimum. Everyone will look gorgeous & feel confident. You can definitely request that they send their top 3 choices before they decide to make sure you like it. There’s like 280 to choose from and great price points...so I’m sure you and your girls will be happy!
