Bridesmaids dresses

Ash, on September 1, 2020 at 3:41 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19
What are your thoughts about buying bridesmaids dresses online and "missing out" on the in-store shopping experience?

Also, I think matching bridesmaids dresses are a bit traditional so more and more I'm thinking about having my girls in different styles but same color, thoughts?

Well the experience of buying a Bridesmaid dress all the times I have been one wasn't special as it is choosing a wedding dress. You can do the same color but maybe different style based on the body type? I would ask your ladies do they want the shopping in person experience and do they want the same style. Sometimes as a Brides maid we wanted to look the same so we found something that works for all of our body types.

I let my girls choose their own dresses so i definitely am all for letting them choose their own. i think it works out better. i am a bridesmaid right now and was so glad the bride let us decide because i chose a much cheaper dress that i could wear beyond the wedding

I am doing in store shopping with my girls because I am a bit more traditional and want them matching so I want them to try on dresses that are the same to make sure that it fits both of their body types. But if you are going to let them pick different styles just the same color then there is no need to go in store shopping.

I went dress shopping with my bridesmaids at a store first, and they ended up buying theirs online at Azazie. The dress shopping in store was such a headache for us - the girls didn't like the same dresses (which wasn't a problem), but they all liked dresses that didn't come in the same fabrics (which was a problem, since the fabrics didn't have the same colors available). After two dress shops, I gave up and setup a show room on Azazie, specified a fabric and a color, and let them each pick their own dress. It ended up being cheaper to go through Azazie too.

The one positive part from shopping in store is that it let them try on different styles, so they knew what they generally liked when looking on Azazie. Azazie was easy to order from, and they also had the option to try them on before they bought them.

If you want the in-person shopping experience with them, try a store that has a large selection (such as, David's Bridal). This way, if you're OK with them each getting a different style, the store is likely to have the dress styles all available in the same fabric. Otherwise, online shopping has plenty of options too. If you go through Azazie, they can try them on first, and there are free returns (if you choose a standard, non-custom size).

I prefer in-person shopping because you figure out what styles are most flattering rather than relying on a picture. While online stores offer try at home, it adds up where it doesn't cost more than gas to visit a local shop. Unless everyone is the same height/weight/proportion, not every style works on everyone. In which case it's best to pick a color and let them pick the style from a specific designer to match the shades.

Yeah, I don't want to pressure my girls into buying something they can't afford! Plus I think with different styles but same color, shows off their personalities more!

We ordered our dresses online and let everyone choose their own style. The only thing I feel I missed out on is some unnecessary stress.

My bridal party is small my sister and best friend, so we opt for same dress, same color and in store experience. I honestly didn't care but they really wanted to try dresses on. I think if your going to have a larger party than two, different shades and styles really work.

My bridal party is small, just my sister as MOH and FSIL as BM. I hadn't even planned what they would do for dresses, just that they could have different styles as long as it was same color/material. Turns out they liked the boutique I got my dress at so much they wanted to come back the next day and get their dresses from there. I was fine with that because I also really liked the boutique, and I knew they had the right color for dresses. We even had that day blocked for dress shopping for me, but I found my dress the first day so we schedules worked out. But I think if you have more than 4 or so bridesmaids, coordinating schedules to even go to a store is just difficult to do. But my two girls also had a hard time choosing dresses they liked, styles they thought they would like ended up being kinda terrible, so an in-store experience might be best so they can see what styles suit them. I know online stores have a try-on option, but if your bridal party is anything like mine, go in person lol.

My bridesmaids tried on dresses in the store but ended up purchasing online. Actually 2 of them missed the day we went to the store but it doesn’t bother them

I actually ordered mine from fashion nova, they are beautiful and we didn’t really miss out on the experience because we as a bridal group hung out a ton and talked about them and ordered them together. They were also $40 so that was cool lol my colors are gold and navy so the dresses were perfect! Below is my MOH in itBridesmaids dresses 1

I’ve never gone shopping with the bride to try on bridesmaids dresses. It’s always been an on my own time/whenever was convenient thing for me and most people I know are the same. 🤷🏼‍♀️

My BM's were in different cities and states. So getting them all together was going to be a both a task to schedule everyone and expensive for whoever was traveling. COVID forced us to abolish the girls dress shopping so didn't have to come this conclusion on my own.

I think BM's are very cool shopping on their leisure, style and price point. You can set whatever guidance you want if you think someone would go rogue. I know when I was a bridesmaid I was very relieved for the brides that gave us wiggle room. I felt more comfortable and confident in something I choose.

I've been a bridesmaid 8 times and I've never gone shopping for a bridesmaid dress in person. All online, and I certainly don't feel like I missed out on anything. It was so much easier to do online! So of course, as a bride, I also had my girls get their dresses online (same company, same color and fabric, different styles). Your bridesmaids will thank you for letting them choose different styles, because nobody has the same body type. These days, I think it's pretty rare for a bride to have her girls in all the same style.

I let my girls order the dress of their choice online and it worked out great. We did go and try on BM dresses once in the store, and there really isn't anything exciting about it. So I wouldn't say they will miss out on much.
