Bridesmaids didn’t order dress on time

Ashten, on July 7, 2018 at 4:05 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24
I have five bridesmaids total, including my MOH. At the end of May I told all of them they should purchase the dress they had all agreed on in march. My MOH and my closest friend were the only ones to order there dresses. I kept reminding the rest of my bridesmaids that they needed to hurry up and order the dress before it was too late and... the 3 of them never ordered it and it won’t be here till after the wedding date now. I called the one of them very mad and frustrated and she tried to figure something out but there was no way around it. So we had agreed on a dress that was in stock and in the color of the other dress. Now I have no idea how to arrange the bridesmaids with the different dresses now. Also, only one of the three have ordered the second dress we had to pick due to them not ordering on time. I’m so upset and frustrated I have no idea what I’m going to do.

As far as arrangement, can you alternate them? dress2, dress1, dress2, dress1, dress2

Unfortunately my maid of honor has dress 1 so it would have to start with that one but there are more girls with dress 2(if they even order it) I’m thinking maybe have the two girls in the first dress then the rest of the girls?

Yes, I think that will look really nice. They’re the same color so they’ll still look uniform. Don’t worry!

That's super frustrating. Assuming they all buy the new dress (fingers crossed) I'd order them either 1,1,2,2,2 or 1,2,2,2,1. The first option might make it look like you have two MOHs though. I'd probably just wait until the day and decide what they look like together, it might look fine in any formation.

If your ordered from DB they'll most likely be in on time. We've ordered 7 dresses from them and they told us it would take months to ship, but all came in less than 2 weeks.

I wouldn’t take that chance. Especially if the girls may need alterations. This style is a new design at DB so probably will take longer to get in.

I would be incredibly frustrated as well, I’m so sorry OP. Bridesmaids only responsibilities are to get the dress and show up the day of. Try not to let it get to you now. Take a deep breathe. Perhaps the girl who got the actual dress can exchange it for the one the other 3 are getting and then the MOH can keep the actual dress? I know it’s frustrating- keep your head high! Or I would do- 1,2,2,1,2 or 1,2,1,2,2

    good luck!

Think of them like beautiful flowers. A random mix of similar ones with slightly different shapes and colors look beautiful together. This business of all bridesmaids matching came about because BM or ladies in waiting for royalty, all wore their own very best dress, sometimes a new one that would then be their best dress for several years to come. Only in the fifties did advertising for the wedding industry push this idea of all new matching dresses for every wedding party. Because it increased the demand for formal wear, and tripled the inusttry's production within ten years. Not only did you need a new dress for one wedding, but if you were in 5 weddings in 2 years, you had to buy 5 all new dresses. And most you would not ever wear again. This is also why dresses of a given style and exact color are rarely in production more than 2 years. People have taken this to mean there is some matchu matchu rule, when there is not. So relax. Getting upset with your friends because of things that really don't matter will drag you all down. Sometimes the key to friendships is knowing how to let things go, be a flexible about details.

Added: March was too early for ordering for a late October wedding. BM orders usually go in 3 months ahead, and if not buying from a bridal place, then all wait until no more than 4 months, so you are shopping for the right season. And in case a particular dress sells quickly. So your ladies are all just at the time most bm order. They did not buy by your arbitrary date, but are doing what most probably expected, normal time schedule, when they accepted being in your BP.

Ok, I don't mean to add to your stress but if this ends up being the case I don't want you to find out when all the dresses come in. The first dress is chiffon and the other is mesh for plum and wisteria the color ends up slightly different due to the different fabric. It's less noticeable with wisteria than plum. I actually had to have my FSIL pick a new dress once I realized since we're doing mixed dresses to begin with and it caused me a ton of stress because I hated making her switch. If you are near a Davids I would go there without an appointment and just find a chiffon dress in biscotti and a mesh dress in biscotti and hold them up before changing from your plan.

If they are different, I do have an idea for a solution so it doesn't look like 2 MOH. This dress is in stock for some sizes: if either of the 2 that haven't ordered are one of the in stock sizes, have that 1 order this dress and the other order the mesh. Then you'll have 2 in one dress, 2 in another, 1 in a different dress, and 3 one color, 2 in another. But mixed dresses are in now, so it's ok. https://www.davidsbridal.com/product_strapless-crinkle-chiffon-dress-with-cascade-skirt-w10840_all-bridesmaid-dresses
Then I would go MOH, mesh, this dress, mesh, original dress.

I totally understand. I have only one bridesmaid that has not ordered her dress. David's bridal says now it will not come in on time. She isn't even responding to me about it when I text her besides once. She said she would do it last week and hasn't yet. Our wedding is next month!! I am freaking out. It is a little too late to replace her a month out and I did different dresses in shades of blush. Her color is the one that is all my runners and table cloths. So this should be interesting. Good luck. Planning a wedding has taught me I really cant rely on people ii thought I could t's so sad.

I would have told them they were now guests. How freakin hard is it to place a dress order? I’m sorry that you are having to have any stress. It’s super inconsiderate of them.

These are both gorgeous and will look great in any standing order. I don't think any guest will know except you and your FH that there was any issue. It'll just look like you picked a color and they chose a style they wanted, which is common. They will all look great!

We called them and they said it was a special order so there would be no way to order it and have it be here on time and I wouldn’t want to take the riskSmiley sad
