Bridesmaids aren’t allowed to wear heels (even short girls)

Becca, on July 21, 2019 at 6:43 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 16
So I’m a bridesmaid for my sister in laws wedding. She doesn’t want anyone wearing any heels only flats. I’m not a “heel girl” but I’m super short and petite. I’m 5’1. The dresses are down to the floor. I know when I wear just summer maxi it looks like I’m swimming in it. I know this isn’t about me but at the same time I want to look decent. I’ve paid for my dress. Which was 220 and paying for alterations, hair and makeup just Incase if anyone is wondering. I’ve been in other wedding but I’ve never heard of “no heels” is this a real thing. Also this isn’t a beach or outdoor wedding.

Hmmm. Is there a specific reason for the no heels? I've been in a few weddings, and it's always been "heres the color shoe I would like, wear anything your comfy in, usually flats, wedges, a sandal, or a heel." If the dresses are floor length, I don't see why it should really matter, since the shoes wont been seen anyway, expect maybe a quick glimpse.

Well it sucks but it's not unheard of to have a bride pick the shoe as well, I'd get the dress hemmed and be glad you can pick your flats. Buying an ugly pair of shoes would be worse.

I completely understand you wanting to wear heels, but I can understand not wanting your wedding party hovering over you more than necessary. I’m 4’11” and I told my girls to wear what they wanted but I am honestly secretly cringing thinking about how tiny I’m going to look up there next to my brother and 5’4”-5’7” girls, even if they wear flats.

That sucks but there's nothing you can do about it really. It could be because she doesn't want to wear heels, who knows! That's kind of weird, but it's not super unheard of.

One of my MOHs joked that she won’t be able to wear heels because she’s already about 6 inches taller than me. My other MOH is the same height I am (5’4”). Ultimately, I’m just going to leave it up to them, whatever they think will be best knowing it’s mountainous terrain.

She’s is going to wear heels
but yeah that’s how I’m looking at it pretty much. I’ll just have to suck it up. But as short girl myself that’s getting married soon as well I don’t mind if my girls wear heels. I’ve been short all my life so I’m used to people “hovering” over me.

I personally would consider this a blessing. Just get it hemmed properly and you should be fine. I’m not a heel girl but my sisters both said I had to for their weddings and it was so painful and awkward. My girls were told they could wear whatever they wanted as their dresses are long and their shoes won’t be seen. I’m wearing sneakers and I think at least one of my girls is as well.

Can you alter the dress to make it where it's not so long?

I agree with the pps, perhaps getting the dress hemmed would be a good idea. Maybe the bride is going for a certain look with the flats, who knows? Sorry you're feeling like this, but hopefully some of the above mentioned suggestions do help you outSmiley heart

Is the venue a historic like place? I know some places are really particular about floors not getting scratched up and stuff. I would imagine if that's the case she would also advise guests to not wear heels as well though.

I'm 5'8" and significantly taller than most of my friends, so I have the opposite problem. I always feel like I look massive compared to my short friends haha. The grass is always greener Smiley winking

My bridesmaids had long dresses so I didn't care if their shoes matched. I personally hate heels so I told my bridesmaids from the beginning that they do not have to wear heels, I knew some of them love heels so I wasn't going to try to stop them from wearing them. The only girls I did not allow to wear heels were my Junior Bridesmaids. They are both VERY tall for their age, taller than me and most of the bridesmaids so I didn't want them to be even taller. Maybe the bride doesn't want everyone towering over her especially if any of the girls are already really tall? So maybe she figured it was fair to say "no one wears heels" instead of saying only tall girls can't

Personally, I'd just wear whatever shoes I was comfortable in since the dresses are floor length and no one will see them anyway.

I don’t want mine wearing them because they want to, and I reallllllllly want them to do what makes them happy too, HOWEVER they don’t know how to walk in them. They’re oozing over how cute different heels are but none can walk properly. I don’t want to risk them, hurting or embarrassing themselves. It’s my big day! I’m not even wearing heels. Our dresses are all very long.
