Bridesmaid wearing suit, do they hold a bouquet or get boutonniere?

Mei-lan, on August 10, 2021 at 5:02 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16
My sister is wearing a suit for my wedding and I am so excited! She is going to look so good. At first I thought a bouquet would be fine but as the date is getting closer, I'm not sure if that will look good. I've also considered her wearing a boutonniere AND hiding a bouquet but will that look strange? I'm asking for advice from people who have had their bridesmaid wear a suit before, what did you do? Or if anyone has been to a wedding where a bridesmaid was wearing a suit, what did they do? My sister goes by she/her, just prefers the more masculine look. I've asked her and she says it's whatever I want (which I appreciate) but I'm also not sure as it's hard to find references!

I've never been to a wedding where a bridesmaid wore a suit, but I'd say a bouquet. She's still a bridesmaid, and usually bridesmaids have bouquets. Smiley smile

My sister is doing the same thing 🙂 I asked her which she would prefer and she's fine with a bouquet. I wouldn't pick both since that looks very busy and it's extra money. If she's standing on the same side as the other bridesmaids, I would say give her the same as everyone else.

I agree that a bouquet would look fine with a suit. So if either if you genuinely have no preference, then I would say bouquet, because that is simpler (everyone on one side gets the same thing).

I have the opposite situation! My fiance's best man is a woman and she's wearing a dress. I was torn between a bouquet or boutonniere, but I've settled on boutonniere (or small corsage) because she'll be standing on the groom's side. So with that said, I think your bridesmaid in a suit should hold a bouquet since she'll be standing on the bride's side.

Why don’t you ask them what they would feel better with?

Since your sister identifies as female, has no preference, and will be standing by your side, I'd to a bouquet. A suit is for both men and women. It's traditionally, but not currently or inherently, masculine. Your photographer may also want cute photos with you and your bouquets

I’d go bouquet. I like bouquets as they give the girls something to do with their hands during the ceremony. Suits do have the benefit of pockets for this, but I think bouquet holding will give your whole side a more uniform look

I have two attendants wearing suits on my side and the florist is making them special boutineers to set them apart from the groomsmen

I thought I added this but she said she doesn't care, it's up to me. Which makes it harder! Lol

Agreed. Gives some type of uniform look and gives her something to do with her hands

It's in the question I posted towards the end. I've asked and she said it's whatever I want.

    What do you want?

If they steer more masculine so as to wanting a suit, a boutonnière may be more appropriate. Judge based on the persons personality.

    To clarify

I DID ask what she prefers, she said it's up to me and doesn't matter

The suit is burgundy with silk paisley pattern and black as the secondary color. Matching the bridesmaids who are also wearing burgundy.
