Bridesmaid Proposal

FutureMrsTurcios, on March 7, 2016 at 4:34 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

I'm thinking of making the BM Proposal boxes for my MOH and BMs. However, I don't quite know if I need to be there when they open them? Do I mail them or give them to them in person?

If they're far away just mail them. If they're close I'd do it in person.

Hi Claudia, welcome to WW! Make sure to upload a picture for your avatar (instead of the default icons) so that we can get to know you and tell you apart from all the other posters. You can do this on a desktop computer under My Settings and Profile and Privacy Settings.

I did bridesmaids boxes as well! For everyone who lives in the same town as me, I handed them out individually. For those who live out of town I mailed them!

I made little gift bags with a wine glass (super cute ones from the dollar store!) and a small glass of wine. I am mailing one because she lives out of state but the rest I am doing in person.

Thank you so much for your responses. This helps me feel better. I wasn't sure about how I shouldgo about it because I felt that if I mailed them, they would feel impersonal. But I was afraid that if I did it in person they'd feel pressured or on the spot.

I did the same thing! I wanted to give them to everyone together, but reality slowly set in that being we all have such different schedules, having all 7 of us together at the same time wasn't going to happen, so I gave them out whenever I was with some one. Half opened them with me there, half opened them on their own time; and the ones who opened them without me we're just as excited even though I wasn't there, I got immediate excited phone calls from them!

I had one girl local and I hand delivered it and watched her open it and then mailed the other and asked her to Skype me when she got it Smiley smile

@Danica, how are you handling mailing the wine? Bubble wrap? I got mini bottles of champagne for the ones who live nearby, but wasn't sure about mailing it to the one who lives out of state.

Just a word of caution... bridesmaids proposals can put alot of pressure on the friend to say yes. Another alternative is asking them in person, and then giving them a little gift IF they accept.

    YES @Michelle

Just ask them. Boxes/proposals can be super intimidating

@michelle that's exactly what I was trying to avoid. I guess I could still make the "proposal" box but give it to each one if they say yes? Lol

Yeah, definitely don't give them the proposal box until after they accept. You don't want to put a lot of pressure on them to accept, and then have them regret it later.

I did this! I'm seeing 2 of them tomorrow and will "propose" to them then, and my 3rd girl lives in Florida, so I'll have to mail hers!

All of theirs say something unique to them/us, but this is just one of them. Smiley smile

I made hand-painted boxes with their initials, ring pops, color swatches for the wedding, and personal notes for each girl. I was able to give each of them their box in person because I waited until my cousins were in town on a visit (they live in NC with their parents while the rest of us live in IL). I was planning on mailing them their boxes until I found out they were coming to visit. I really enjoyed everyone's reactions to being asked, so I'm glad I did it in person. I agree with other posts stating these boxes can put a lot of pressure on girls to accept your "proposal," but I knew each of these girls and most (at least my younger cousins) had been asking about my wedding/not-so-subtly hinting at wanting to be a part of the wedding.

@Shelby they look beautfiul I am sure they will love them!!!

@FutureMrs.G that's kinda what I had in mind of doing for mine. And I completely understand the whole putting pressure on them or putting them on the spot with the "proposal", but you have a point. I guess it just depends on who you are asking and how interested they have been in your whole wedding process.
