Bridesmaid Proposal box and a gift???

Samantha, on December 15, 2019 at 11:23 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9
Hey guys, so I did a simple and inexpensive bridesmaid proposal box with some self care items and a personal note. Do I also have to get them a gift? On a budget, mainly paying for wedding ourselves.

In regards to asking them to be a bridesmaid? No; your proposal box is sufficient (as would have been a simple card or just asking them). However, it would be appropriate to give a gift at the wedding to thank them for their support, time, and financial commitment. When you purchase thank you gifts for the wedding, getting ready items and things you'd like them to wear for the wedding itself do not count. Instead, shop for them like it's their birthday (as in they all do not have to receive the same gift and it should be something they'd like in general). It does not have to be something grand and expensive, but a small gift and heartfelt note will really help them see how much you appreciated them standing up with you.

You still have to get them a bridesmaid gift, but you can give this to them shortly before the wedding!

Yes, what the other pps said. They're also spending money for your wedding. Doesn't have to be anything grand. Etsy has some great ideas.

Thank you gifts are a necessity, "proposal" gifts are optional. If you can't afford to do both, skip the proposal. You can ask your friends to be in your wedding without bribing them with gifts.

If on a budget, then spending on the bridesmaids gift makes more sense than the proposal box.

I did a proposal gift box and on the wedding day I made my girl's wood hangers with their names to hang their dresses and a handkerchief for their happy tears with a handwritten thank you note. These weren't expensive gifts, mostly sentimental.

In my opinion, proposal boxes are optional but day of gifts should be required.

Thanks everyone that all helps! I’ll look for something simple but meaningful for the day of the wedding! 😊 I already did the proposal box so I can’t take that back.

I think it'd be nice to. It can be small.
