Bridesmaid options for someone not comfortable in a dress?

Sarah, on April 20, 2013 at 3:07 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

I love all my Bridesmaids so much, and the group is made up of my sister and my fiance's sisters. I want them to be comfortable, feel beautiful, and enjoy the day rather than hate what they're wearing. One Bridesmaid will not wear a dress, and hasn't since grade 8. I refuse to put her in that situation and make her wear one, but I'm having a hard time coming up with an alternative option for her. Any elegant ideas about what she could wear?

We're having a destination wedding in the Mayan Riviera and the other girls are probably wearing all different style dresses

Thanks for the help!!!!

Would she wear a skirt/top combo? If not you could do flowy dress pants, the kind that almost look like a maxi skirt.

Do you have pictures of dresses the other BMs are wearing? Are you and FH in "traditional" wedding attire?

I googled "elegant pant suit" and attached some of the results. You can see more for yourself here: http://tinyurl.com/cgz3nng

How formal is it, what are the other girls wearing, and what are the guys wearing (tuxes?). Does she dress femininely but not like dresses, or does she not dress femininely at all?

Thanks everyone for some great ideas Smiley smile

It's not black tie, but not casual, it's a beachy in between. The men are wearing tan/sand coloured suits without the suit jacket, just the vest (too hot). The girls are wearing cocktail dresses.

She doesn't dress too masculine, there's a slight femininity to her style.

I do like the idea of khaki pants (kind of like the guys) and a top that matches the colour of the girls dresses

My FSIL hasn't worn a dress I think... ever... she's a khaki pants and tshirt kind of girl- turns out she was totally willing to wear a dress because she didn't want to stick out from the rest of the girls but she asked me if she could change immediately following the reception and I said sure... you can wear whatever you want after that.

If your other girls are already wearing different dresses- as long as you get a nice pant-suit in a similar or complimenting color I think it would look great! It's a tough choice but I do like the pant-suit option if she'd be more comfortable!

It's nice you want her to be comfortable but has she outright refused or said she will be uncomfy? My FSIL has NEVER worn a dress but is going to wear it 1. Because I really want everyone in a dress 2. Because she doesn't want to look like the odd man out in dress pants.

I'd talk to your BM get her thoughts cause I think she may look off being the only one in pants?

I'd just like to say THANK YOU on behalf of your bridesmaids for caring about if they'll be comfortable in their outfits.

Also, love some of those pant-suits above... but I agree that maybe you should ask her first, if she'd be OK wearing a dress or she'd be uncomfortable. She might not mind, if it's wear a dress or be the only one in pants.

You can go with some palazzo pants and a top in the same color as your bridesmaids and I think she will look great. I would have all your girls wear different dresses tat way she doesn't stick out like a sore thumb
