Bridesmaid on crutches and wearing a full length leg cast

Kelsey, on April 3, 2018 at 6:31 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8
Hi so I'm a bridesmaid for my best friend's wedding. She's getting married on April 21st. So just about a week ago I had a little accident that resulted in a broken tibia and fibula. Now for the wedding I'm going to be in a cast from my toes up to mid thigh and on crutches. The only cast wrap they had was red so it doesn't match the wedding colors. I'm going to stand out and I don't want to mess up the pictures or fall during the ceremony. It's hard to swing my cast and uses my crutches while wearing my dress. It's just making me nervous. Does anybody have advice and/or experience with this?

You are there because you are important to her, you can't mess up the pictures because of the cast. If you feel steady and safe enough then rock that cast and have a good time!

Oh no! That is such a bummer! Can you wrap your cast in a light colored cloth to make it less visible? Might be better to have you already standing at the front- not ideal but a lot of room for accidents.

Oh no! good luck with your recovery! I agree with PPs, as a bride if it were one of my BMs I would not be concerned with a friend messing up photos having a cast on her leg, or be worried about any change in flow to have you already at the front. Maybe you could be seated in the front row and then stand up to join the line before the bride comes down the aisle?

If you'd like to try wrapping it just for photos, would an ace bandage work? After the ceremony/photos, you could take the extra wrapping off and bring a change in outfit so that you feel more stable moving around during the reception.

Coband comes in a variety of colors. They sell it at Wal-Mart, target, Vons. Easiest way to match the wedding colors

I agree with wrapping your cast with something in the wedding colors.

Also, I would bring your dress to seamstress and see about having a slit added to the skirt (if it doesn't have one). This will allow a lot more breathing room for your cast!

I know this sounds like a crazy suggestion, but if you want to use the colored coban to wrap the cast, you can get it really cheap at Tractor Supply and probably other similar stores. It's considered an equine supply there and you can choose your color for $2.49 for a roll that's 4" wide and 5 yards long. And you can just use black or white if the colors they have don't work for you.

Pictures can be changed with brush ups and you can be placed in ways you dont see the cast. As far as walking down the aisle, perhaps speak with the bride and in telling her your discomforts, ask if maybe you can walk up the side aisle (if available) before the service and sit up front (in pew) until your place in line to stand, then join the party if you can. If they are concerned about the groomsman, 2 could escort one BM. Just a thought
