Bridesmaid not responding to texts or calls - it's been 3 weeks!

Liz, on November 22, 2013 at 9:44 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

One of my bridesmaids lives out of state, so I don't expect her to be able to participate in everything that is going on. About 3 weeks ago, she told me she was pregnant, but due 2 months before our wedding. I have responded with congratulations, how are you feeling, I want to hear your news, this is so exciting, and have gotten one response in 3 weeks. I genuinely DO want to know how she is doing, it was an unexpected pregnancy so I know she must be overwhelmed! But I also need to talk wedding details with her, and she is just ignoring me. I have a feeling she is going to back out of the wedding, which is fine - I will not be mad, just disappointed, but I understand. The problem is, she is ignoring me and now it's making me angry. I considered her a close friend. Any advice here is appreciate...I just wish she would be mature and tell me if she cannot participate in my wedding. I would have understood, but now it is getting out of hand.

People get wrapped into their own lives, and it's no surprise since she's pregnant and a huge deal. Give her some time, you still have plenty of time before your wedding.

I would send her a heart felt card to express your feelings. She's probably just fearful of ruining your wedding/friendship, so at this point, it may be easier for her to ignore you. Can you reach out to her significant other?

I'm having a similar problem, but it's my MOH and she's the only one in the bridal party..aaacckk. I'm just giving her space for now. I'll see her at Christmas and hopefully things will be better for her.

I'm trying to give her space, but she also has a trip planned to see me and visit in January, and I also want to know if she is still coming! At this rate, I don't see that happening. We both have exciting things going on in our lives, and I genuinely do want to catch up. It's sad!

@kristenann - I haven't met her significant other yet. The two of them were to come visit in January so we could meet him. Sigh.

When is your wedding? and what kind of details do you need to talk through with her?

try calling her and not mentioning your wedding. just doing and tell her that you love her and to let you know if you can do anything for her. how far does she live? maybe you can go visit her instead of her coming to see you?

Sweetheart, she just found out she's pregnant. No doubt she is overwhelmed with calls and messages from people just like you, on top of being scared and sick. I mean this with all the love in my heart, but this one isn't about you or your wedding- I understand you need to know what the deal is, but you have time. I would personally send her flowers and say something like, 'I am so happy for your news! I can't wait to be there for you on this journey!' Give her an out for the wedding too. She may be scared, because who the hell knows what her life will look like by the time your wedding is here.

My wedding is in July, so I know it is a bit away, but am starting to plan having the bridesmaids try on their dresses. I'm in school getting my master's, so I've told all my bridesmaids that December/January (during my break) is when I am going to be in full blown planning mode. If I wait until May when the semester ends, it's way too close.

I called her two days ago with the plan of not mentioning my wedding at all, only talking about her, but she didn't answer and I left a voicemail. She is about 3 hours away from me.

Thanks everyone for your comments! I am trying to be patient, I know she has a major life change on her hands! It is difficult to accept her not responding to my congratulatory messages when she is on Facebook posting all of the time. Oh, social media Smiley smile
