Bridesmaid in a suit?

Amberini22, on November 28, 2016 at 11:52 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

Good afternoon WW. I need your help. One of my bridesmaid's will not be wearing a dress. It's not her style, she wore a suit to her own wedding. Back to my question, She will be the only one on my side not wearing a dress and she has come to me asking what I want her to wear and honestly I do not know. Should she match the groomsmen's navy blue suits? I have googled and searched pinterest for all sorts of things to get ideas and have found nothing. My BMs will be wearing mismatched dresses but in colors such as blush, champagne and rose gold. What do you guys think? She has also stated she likes the slim fit more curve hugging pant and possibly suit jacket. Would a sparkly vest and a pink tie maybe navy blue pant look good? Thank you

Tell her the colors your other BMs are wearing and then let her get her own outfit in one of those shades. Smiley smile

I think it's totally up to you and her, but since your other BMs are wearing mismatched dresses, I would have her in similar colors to the other BMs, just in a suit. If you can't find a blush/champagne/etc. pantsuit she likes, then I would go to the groomsmen colors.

I will show Kaelie that post, I think if she does a navy blue suit with a champagne sparkly tie and possibly blush shirt she will look amazing. She's a natural fiery redhead and I think the navy blue will look great on her.

I'd be careful about any sort of sparkly tie or vest. That feels a little too "magician's assistant" to me.

You could also skip the jacket for her. If she wears navy pants and a shirt within the palette of the other bridesmaids, she'll fit right in and hopefully be comfortable and feel beautiful

Totally agree about watching sparkly tie/vest. A shimmery shirt would work though

I would have her in a shirt/vest/pocket square that match the color theme of the girls. And probably wouldn't have her match the guys too much...I think it would be confusing as to which side she was on! (Even if she was standing with the girls)

Why not a flowy pants suit in the same colors your other BMs will be wearing? Like this but in one of your colors.

I think a navy suit and either or those ties would look great!

Not sure if she already has a suit she can wear, or if she'd be buying something new anyway - but there are some awesome options out there! Like a blush suit, or sparkly jacket!

Have her get a suit in the color of the BMs. My FH is having a "groomsmaid" and she will wear a suit in the color of the groomsmen.

I will do some research on a nude or blush colored suit. She said she doesn't want something that will clash with red hair and light completion.

^^^It's quite aging. Not my taste, it looks more like MOG or MOB, but still not my style.

I have a lady wearing a suit. She is wearing black vest and pants and the shirt is matching the BM dresses. Her vest and pants don't match the men but is close.

I have no advice, I just want to commend you on treating your friends as loved ones and not props. Go you for allowing her to wear what she feels most comfortable in!!!

I have a bridesmaid that only wears men's suits to formal occasions based on her comfort and personal preference. I do want it to match my other bridesmaids who I would like to wear mismatched hues of purple. Thinking about her getting her suit first so we can get a sense of the other purples to match. I want her to be as comfortable as possible while also matching. Any suggestions of places with various purple mens' suits?

PS- I commend everyone on here for being so accommodating to the modern-day wedding! Stay true to your feelings and don't let others sway your opinions. I almost let my soon-to-be MIL talk me out of having one girl in suit on my side but she is very traditional. But I let it sink in and I cannot see myself actually going through with this.
