Bridesmaid Hair

Sorry to say you have no authority over what your bridesmaids do with their hair or that they make use of professionals at all. The deal is this. You can offer to pay for pro hair or makeup or you can provide access to those services if they wish to make use of them, but you can't dictate styles, who they use, or that they can't DIY if that's what they prefer. You get input on the dress. Hair is a personal choice.

Nope, that wouldn’t look odd at all. Bridesmaids should choose hair and makeup that flatters them individually. And tbh, no one is going to be paying attention to your BM’s hair, makeup, shoes, etc., so don’t waste time worrying about those little details. Everyone’s focus will be on you and your spouse

That’s not weird at all. It’s courteous and being mindful that they have individual style to let them wear hair and makeup how they are comfortable.

It’s the more appropriate thing to let them choose their own hairstyle anyway! And my MOH and bridesmaid wanted different hairstyles and I think it looked fine!

Not weird. This is what my girls did. One only ever wears her hair down and the others wanted fancy. Everyone looked great and so do my pictures

I think they should have their hair up or down, whichever suits them best.

No I don't think it's weird, I'm letting my girls choose how they have their hair done as some have curly hair, some have straight hair whichever they are most comfortable doing.

Personally, I think it's much weirder looking if everyone does match. They are people, not props or chorus girls.

It won't look weird. I don't care how my MOH and Bridesmaids wear their hair long as they don't go super weird with crazy colors. But then again I don't have that to worry about.

I still haven't picked out my hair style yet.. so no room to judge anyone else when I haven't gotten my hairstyle picked out yet.. lol

You can definitely ask your bridesmaids to wear the same hairstyle!! lmao I’m not sure why anyone would say you can’t make that decision. My bridesmaids all wore similar hairstyles & were on board with it. I sent them some inspo pics so they got a sense of what I wanted. It looked stellar in photos.


My hair and mua suggested that I should wear my hair in a different style (down) than the bridesmaids (low elegant buns). Due to humidity she put my hair up so it looked kinda similar to the bridesmaids but more polished / fancy. As long as you have a theme in mind & the bridesmaids are on board, it should be fine- whether they all have the same hairstyle or not.

It's both totally normal for a bride to ask bridesmaids to wear similar hairstyles if you want a more uniform look, and it's also totally normal for bridesmaids to choose what they want and for there to be a range of different styles. Personally I think different styles looks kinda nice, but you're not being unreasonable to ask bridesmaids to have similar styles if you want.

I was in a wedding where the bride was extremely particular about everything for the bridesmaids (hair, earrings, a very specific matching bracelet, fingernails and toenails, etc.) and required us to all pay for ourselves to get our hair and makeup done by professionals. None of the eight bridesmaids complained at all or had any problem with it! She was the bride and if she preferred a certain aesthetic, then that was totally her choice and none of us thought she was being unreasonable or a bridezilla or anything. But also we were a very laid-back and un-opinionated group of bridesmaids.

Let them be beautiful in their way. This will make your photos with bridesmaids more beautiful and happy.

It is okay to tell them your preference but if they don't want to do that, they still have the choice how to wear their hair. Don't make an issue of it if any of them say "no."

I think it really depends on what type of wedding you are having. Is it super formal, rustic, boho etc? IMO if it is formal, then it looks better for all the ladies to either have all updos or all wear down. However, if it is more laid back, then I don't see an issue with them all mixing it up with up and down dos. They are your bridesmaids and you chose them for a reason and of course you want to keep them happy, however... make sure that YOU are happy with what they will be looking like on your wedding day. These are going to be pictures that will on your walls for your entire lifetime. Best of luck on your wedding adventure!

It really depends on your preference quite honestly. I have been a hair and makeup artist for multiple weddings and have seen bridal parties all choose one style, everyone up or everyone down and others will do whatever makes the girl feel confident. It truly depends on you. Congrats!!
