Bridesmaid gifts

Olivia, on November 20, 2019 at 4:04 PM Posted in Planning 1 19
I’m curious what bridesmaid gift(s) you have received in the past that you loved? What do you typically think makes a nice bridesmaid gift, other than jewelry?

I got my girls a laser engraved cup with their name, a make up bag, hair ties, deep cleansing face mask, and nail polish in my wedding color. All my girls loved it

I prefer something that’s special to me, not something generic for every person or anything with “bridesmaid” or “maid of honor” written on it.

I would love to receive something like a decent bottle of wine and a book, a starbucks gift card, a mani/pedi gift card. A target or amazon gift card would be awesome.

Really I think anything I listed is a better gift than another cup (I have a whole cupboard of misc. mugs and cups and yetis), a robe (I never wear them), jewelry (I'm super picky about it and dont' wear much - also, if it's jewelry for the wedding, that's a gift for you, not your BM's).

In general I would stay away from anything that says "bridesmaid" and shop for each girl individually like you would for their birthdays - it's almost a guarantee that they won't all love the same few trinket/token items.

I personally don't like being gifted jewelry. I rarely wear necklaces, I never wear bracelets or rings (other than engagement/wedding ring), and my ears are SUPER sensitive so the earrings have to be high quality for me to wear them. I've been a bridesmaid twice, one time was gifted a sparkly watch which I appreciated since it was a nicer watch for nice events and I didn't have a nice watch at the time. However, it was far too big for my wrist so I did have to pay to have it sized later. I was a bridesmaid another time and got one of those cheap silk robes which I absolutely hate. The gifts I enjoy are: cotton/microfiber/soft robes, slippers, fuzzy socks, to go coffee mugs (that don't say "bridesmaid" or anything about the wedding on them), insulated water bottles, gift cards, body lotions, candles, makeup bags (especially large ones), etc. I really appreciate and would prefer over gifts if the bride paid for things like hair & makeup, dress, shoes, travel, etc. or any of those just because saving me money is a better gift in my opinion. I also appreciate a nice thank you note or letter.

I agree with Mrs. D. that the best thing really is to "gift" bridesmaids their hair&makeup or other required items like dress, shoes, shawl, etc. If you really want something "gifty" I would lean towards something they can use like pajamas, a nice cup/wine tumbler or cosmetic bag with their name on it, rather than "bridesmaid" printed on it. I would be much more likely to keep and use something with my name or initials than a generic bridesmaid item.

I got my bridesmaids a button down sleep shirt from Victoria’s Secret when they were on sale for like $15. They’re cute and they can wear them again if they would like. My mom bought those for them so I’m doing Lush gift sets, slippers, and like a $10-$15 gift card to whatever I know they’ll use. Target, Amazon, Sephora, etc.

Darn guys, now I'm not so sure about getting robes for my bridesmaids.

I have been in 2 weddings and got a robe in one and a monogrammed oversized oxford and I wear both from time to time.

If you're not buying getting ready outfits for bridesmaids, what did you have people wear? Did it look odd in pictures?

That’s how I feel! I planned to pay for the girls’ hair to be professionally styled and several people claimed it was a “selfish gift” and that it can’t count as part of a bridesmaid gift.. but I don’t really agree with that so this made me happy to see a couple past bridesmaids personally wish they had been gifted that! Everyone has a different opinion on it, I guess. I know I’d appreciate it had someone paid for my hair to by styled also. This helps! I also want something to give them something nice to hang onto since hair is day of.

Honestly, I am still planning on giving my bridesmaids getting ready robes because I love how the getting ready wedding photos look with them.matching! I am wanting to find something else to give them additionally however as a bridesmaid gift that they would personally enjoy. I feel like people trying to claim you can’t count x and x as a gift is in a way redefining the very definition of a gift..a gift is something freely given, they don’t have to pay for it and get to take it home and keep it! It’s theirs. Some persons may love robes, others might not but wedding gifts aside, I’m sure everyone has gotten a birthday or Christmas gift at some point they didn’t love. That didn’t make it any less of a gift. I wouldn’t do away with the robes if that’s something you want to do! Smiley smile Just pick something to give them they’d personally love as well.

I agree! Once your bridesmaid duties are over, it’s not very compelling to tote something around with that role engraved on it

Daughter chose nice quality plaid flannel shirts for the BMs to wear for getting ready pics (no monograms, no roles, etc.) and all of them have worn them mutiple times, because they were useful and comfortable. She also gave them tote bags, a Swarovski necklace and earring set (clearly, for the wedding, but something they could potentially wear again -- they were pretty and good quality), flip flops (which several changed into for the reception), a shawl wrap for the reception, and she paid for their mani-pedis the day before the wedding and hosted a sleepover following the rehearsal dinner (two days before the wedding). Clearly some of her gifts were in the "props" category, but they were all items that could be used again/for other purposes, and her bridal party seemed very happy.

I got my girls a gift card to a place they like as well as paid for either hair or makeup for them. I’ve never reused a getting ready outfit, tote bag, cup, jewelry etc from any time I’ve been a bridesmaid.

Yeah I think robes plus some more personal stuff will be great.

I am also making them jewelry boxes with their monogram on it.

Now after reading y'alls ideas I may do starbucks or target gift cards!

I don’t have a bridal party but I got my best friend/DOC and my future stepdaughter each a Coach purse and matching wallet in a style they will like, a few gift cards to their favorite places and a personalized photo album. I hope they will like them.

I meannnn.... it is your day so even if you give them a gift that seems selfish, the whole day is about you. It’s the one day you get to celebrate you and your SO. I love the robe and hanger idea, I’m really into how the pictures look and I think everything looks so pretty when it’s all in sync. I think paying for hair or makeup is also a nice gift. So if a BM wanted to get her hair or make up done but couldn’t afford it, you’re giving her the gift to be able to get it done. Even if the gift is a little cliche, isn’t that what weddings are all about anyways? Who cares if they use the glass once. It’s a memory!

If your getting their hair and makeup done and matching robes, that’s for you not them. They’ve spent money on the dress and shoes, showers and bachelorette parties. I would like a gift certificate for a massage or facial, a special perfume, something for me as an individual. But I think it’s all your taste.
